The word (romance) and (Amish) may not typically go together to some people. However, it turns out that Amish romance is a successful and multi-million dollar writing industry. It is a fact that 25 percent of the current market of inspirational fiction is occupied with the romantic novels that feature a Mennonite or Amish setting. Suzanne Woods Fisher presents her work through this genre very well. Suzanne currently resides in San Francisco in Bay area together with her family; her husband, 4 children, a son-in-law, one new grandbaby as well as a number of dogs. She also graduated from the Westmont College found in Santa Barbara in California and while her kids were growing, she was a freelancer writer for magazines.

The Inn at the Eagle Hill Book series

The Letters

This is the first novel of the The Inn at the Eagle Hill series where Fisher takes her readers back to a familiar territory; the quiet lives and the gently rolling farmland of the Amish of Pennsylvania. This setting frames Rose Shrock, who is a widow, ironically. Rose nurses a uniquely quiet heart as she goes through the struggles of repaying the debts that her husband, who drowned suspiciously, left behind. Rose’s neighbor named Galen King supports her efforts of raising money through opening up her home to other boarders; Shrock’s mother-in-law who is very bitter. When Rose Schrock changes her Amish farmhouse to a bed and breakfast, her expectations are that there may be problems. These include her bitter mother-in-law’s reaction and the church’s disapproval. She does not however expect that guests of the Inn at the Eagle Hill will also bring forth their issues into her heart and life. She also does not expect the kind of support and help she acquire from Galen King, a rugged and quiet horse trainer living next door. Rose discovers that love blooms in the ways that are least expected. A first tenant of the new Inn at the Eagle Hill comes looking for refuge and solace, whereby Rose is provides both. Rose’s children however, have their personal dramas as well which add depth and color to the entire story-line. Through every challenge, the faith of Rose provides the strength to the weak and also inspiration to those who are doubtful. Despite many of the conflicts wrapping up very cleanly, readers will definitely appreciate this offering from the great Amish romance author.

Inspired by true story, the bestselling author invites readers to a fresh story with strong faith and simple pleasures. Suzanne Woods Fisher creates a cast of characters who are authentic, real-life situation and problems as well as a beautiful setting into the satisfying and sweet story. Her characters are trying to live a simple life, in spite of the difficulties and hardships that they are facing. They are also learning on how to adapt their ways of life without giving up on their beliefs. The novel gives a glimpse of life that readers are privileged to observe that includes some great surprises, twists and turns.

The calling

This is the second book in the series which involve character Bethany Schrock whose love life is derailed. Her own faith is greatly reduced and hangs only by a thread. She is spending the hot summer days living through an accumulation lifetime at a home with her 5 elderly Amish sisters. She is uncertain of what she really wants in life. She however knows that whatever she is looking for she won’t find it in Stoney Ridge. A new guest of the Inn at the Eagle Hill then convinces her to volunteer in a community project meant for the down-and-outer. Though she begins reluctantly, Bethany Shrock begins to feel a little satisfaction and joy once again. But the joy is not as much or adequate for Jimmy Fisher to woo her affections using his tricks and winks and tricks, maybe a little. A figure from Bethany’s past then re-enters her life and she has to make a decision. Suzanne shows what the past means to her future in this great novel. The bestselling author Suzanne Fisher offers her trademark surprises, turns, twists and adds tender romance in the exciting and delightful setting of a quiet and small community of the Stoney Ridge. Her characters maintain their simple life or try to maintain it through the hardships that they come across. She also shows how the characters learn to adjust their ways of life while strongly retaining their beliefs. The series is generally very entertaining and definitely worth checking out.
