Tammye Huf is an accomplished published author.

She is originally from the United States’ east and west coast but has since crossed over to the other side of the pond. Tammye lives in the United Kingdom now with her family and has for over twenty years. Her family includes her husband and their three kids.

She says that she really loves to immerse herself in new places and experiences. Tammye also particularly enjoys the way that books are able to let her do that and can let her go all around the globe or even travel back in time just by simply turning the pages.

Tammye attended Wellesley College, where she graduated with her BA. Throughout the years, Tammye has been a teacher of people who are of different ages and abilities. She has worked with them as a copy writer and as a translator too. Tammye says that she has had the pleasure of seeing the short stories she has written published in many different literary magazines. She also was picked as the third-place winner in 2018 for the London Magazine Short Story Prize.

Her debut novel was titled A More Perfect Union. It was longlisted for the Jhalak Prize, was the winner of the Diverse Book Award in 2021, and was selected as a BBC Radio 2 Book Club Pick. She would follow this up with her next novel Inharmonious, which came out under the title The Colour of Home in the United Kingdom. When a mysterious blacksmith promises her the world and also her freedom, she has to consider it seriously. It’s such a tempting prospect that she does not know how she could turn it down.

Maple is busy being enslaved at Jubilee Plantation and really wants to go back to her husband and daughter. When Sarah arrives, it seems like an opportunity to be reunited with her family. But in the end, there could be a tremendous cost for it. Pearl Harbor gets attacked in 1941. Once it happens, Cora’s brother Benny wants nothing more than to enlist and to serve his country. While he’s doing so against the wishes of Cora and her mother, it feels like the right thing to do to him and he goes ahead and signs up.

Benny has light skin and eyes that allows him to pass as white. When Benny reports for duty, he starts to realize that he has been enlisted as a white man in a military that is racially segregated. Meanwhile, Lee has been pals with Benny ever since he was a troubled teen and has been sweet on Cora for almost the same amount of time.

Lee enlists without telling Cora that he is going to do so, and when he does she gets her heart broken. She thought that they were going to spend the rest of their lives together, and feels deeply betrayed by what has occurred. Then there is their family friend Roscoe. Benny encourages him and so he offers to marry Cora so that he can make sure that she and her mother at home will have someone to provide for them in case Benny does not come back.

Benny does end up returning but also has a new identity as a white man. He feels out of place especially in a country that sees things literally in terms of being black or white. America also is saying that it will give post-war prosperity to white veterans through the GI Bill– leaving black soldiers out. The war may have ended, but has the battle just started for Lee, Cora, Benny and Roscoe? Read this book to find out!
