About Tao Wong

The Canadian author Tao Wong has been writing fantasy and science-fiction novels for quite some time now. Largely focusing on the GameLit and LitRPG subgenres, he sets about making them entirely his own, placing his own stamp upon them. Dealing with a whole range of different themes and ideas, he really understands the genre, saying something entirely unique in the process. Making his work accessible and easy-to-follow, his stories are hugely entertaining for a wide audience of readers from around the world.

Establishing elaborate premises while building expansive worlds for his readers to explore, he really takes his audience on a journey. Making the most of each concept, he really does push the boundaries of what the genre can actually do, taking it in new and interesting directions. His style and approach has proven to be massively successful, making his work hugely popular worldwide with readers far and wide. Gaining a massive following, his work really does resonate on multiple different levels, allowing him to speak in a manner that’s very much his own.

Exploring his imagination along with his audience, he guides the reader, while also allowing them to truly feel a part of the action. His characters are also integral to this, as each of his protagonists come alive essentially for the reader off of the page. Leaving a powerful and lasting impact, he also ensures that the reader continues to come back time and time again on many different occasions. There’s no sign he’s going to stop any time soon either, as he will carry on writing for many years to come, on into the future.

Early and Personal Life

Born in Malaysia, Tao Wong lives in Toronto, Canada, and has been focusing on his love of writing for much of his life. Devoted to his craft, he has honed his style, finding his own unique voice and idiosyncratic outlook in the process. Speaking from his perspective, he’d apply it to the science-fiction and fantasy genres, finding his own niche within them.

Also keenly interested in martial arts, he’s also been a passionate Magic: The Gathering player and LARPer, really making a name for himself. Applying his interests to his writing, he would use it to inform much of his material, allowing it to inspire him in the process. Still living in Toronto to this very day, he continues to regularly write, putting out his work and fiction on a consistent basis.

Writing Career

In 2017 Tao Wong would begin his literary career, starting with the fantasy novel ‘A Healer’s Gift’ during the middle of the year. This book would set the tone of much of what was to come, with it being a GameLit novel, as many more would soon follow. Later that year he’d release his follow-up book ‘An Adventurer’s Heart,’ followed by ‘A Dungeon’s Soul,’ and these would go on to make-up his popular ‘Adventures on Brad’ series.

Other series would be titled ‘System Apocalypse,’ ‘Hidden Wishes,’ ‘Thousand Li,’ and the ‘System Apocalypse Comics’ to name just a few. Also writing alongside fellow authors such as AG Marshall, Wong would have a rich and varied literary career, clearly displaying his versatility as an author. Maintaining a strong profile online too, he’s always keeping his readers updated as to his next venture, as his audience continues to grow worldwide.

Cities in Chains

The fourth book in the ongoing ‘The System Apocalypse’ series of books, this continues directly on from the previous novels. Initially released in 2018 on the 31st of May, this would first come out on the Kindle publishing platform to much acclaim. It’s best to read the books in order, as there’s an long-running story set in the science-fiction GameLit world of the popular saga.

With it having been more than a year since the System arrived on Earth, monsters and blood has rained down in its wake. John has now left Whitehorse, as he travels to British Columbia with his team, all the while running running into numerous humans and aliens. Looking to show the alien oppressors why humanity should never be put in chains, he aims to turn everything around once and for all. Will he finally make a change and save the day, can he survive against all odds, and what will become of the cities in chains?

It’s a fun book with a lot to offer fans of both the author and the GameLit genre, entertaining the reader on every level. Delivering a straightforward story that’s simple to follow, it’s accessible, with a narrative that fully immerses its audience. Characters are also well established, as everyone has fully three-dimensional personalities, as the reader can easily relate to them.

The First War

First brought out through the ‘Starlit’ publishing imprint, this would originally come out in 2020 on the 1st of April. Setting up the third book in the ‘A Thousand Li’ series of novels, it continues on from the first two novels, paving the way for more to follow. Again these books should be read in order, as this is what will help the reader gain the most from the series overall.

Intent on taking over the state of Shen, the state of Wei has gone about increasing their output of soldiers and cultivators. Wu Yiung has a choice to make in that he can either continue his quest for immortality, or keep his ties to his otherwise mortal form. Or maybe he could find a balance, maintaining the ties between his mortal form and family, along with his destiny and heaven beyond. Where will his journey take him this time, can he deal with the obstacles in his way, and who will emerge victorious from the first war?

Another quality LitRPG novel from Tao Wong, this book really does work, doing exactly what it sets out to do. Asking some serious questions along the way too, it has multiple levels, making this a great novel to become fully immersed in. The characters are all well drawn, as it entertains and compels the reader to continue, with plenty of twists and turns along the way.
