Tara Holloway is a series of books from Diane Kelly, an author primarily known for writing humorous, romantic mystery novels.

+The Story

Diane Kelly’s Tara Holloway series follows Tara Holloway, an IRS Special Agent. A recovering tomboy, Tara has a head of figures,, and she puts her skills to the test in a series filled with more mystery and unjust deeds than Tara might have expected.

Diane’s very first book of Tara Holloway series received a Romance Writers of America’s Golden Heart Award. Along with attracting numerous RWA chapter awards, Diane’s titular hero, Tara, has been described as the Annie Oakley of the IRS in a series that is surprisingly quirky.

While described as mystery, the Tara Holloway series tends to emphasize the relationships between the various characters, this along with the elements of romance that tend to infuse the story.

Readers with a particular taste for mystery and suspense are unlikely to squeeze any noteworthy satisfaction from Diane Kelly’s books, not because she’s particularly lacking in the arena of mystery but, rather, Tara Holloway’s adventures and the various situations she finds herself entangled with are typically lacking in the sort of malice one might encounter in the average mystery novel.

None the less, the series has its fans, readers that enjoy Diane’s particular brand of humor. The novels are primarily targeted towards female readers, and those many detractors of Diane Kelly’s work, especially those readers not impressed by the effort ostensibly injected by the author into making every line as funny as possible might be reacting to the rather girly nature of the Tara Holloway novels.

+The Author

An award winning author Diane Kelly specializes in the areas of romance and romantic mysteries. Her protagonists are often feisty females with quirky sidekicks. And no Diane Kelly book is complete without a sexy leading man, this along with a story filled to the brim with humor.

Diane Kelly is herself a former tax advisor; originally working with white-collar criminals, some of her experiences in the field have influenced several elements of storytelling in her Tara Holloway series.

Diane eventually decided to go the self-employment route. At some point in her life, she began writing her Death and Taxes’ Romance series, and she never looked back, having finally found the career to satisfy her imagination.

Diane Kelly is a graduate of the Citizen Police Academy in her hometown. Along with this series, she has also written the Paw Enforcement series, this along with self-published works like Love, Luck, and Little Green men’.

+Taxes, Death and a French Taxes Manicure

An agent on the IRS’ Payroll, once Tara Holloway gets your number, she will not rest until money criminals are made to pay their dues.

The Treasury Department of Criminal Investigation Division has a new Agent. Tara is quickly making a name for herself, taking social security numbers, kicking ass and maintenance of honest taxpayers safe.

With her latest mission, Tara is facing quite the challenge, now hot on the trail of Joseph Joe’ Cullen. An ice-cream vendor, Joe has made a habit out of selling narcotics alongside his frozen treats. And even worse, he has yet to account his big gains on this tax returns.

Tara will not have it. However, as things begin to heat up on the home front, Joe might have to wait a while for Tara’s wrath. All signs point to Michael Gryder in use of Ponzi scheme. And he seems to have partnered with Stan Shelton who coincidentally owns the same lake house that Brett Ellington is landscaping.

Brett is dating Tara. And Tara must make a very difficult decision. Whether she chooses to trust him or simply throws him behind bars, she will have to pay a price for new love.

With Taxes, Death and a French Taxes Manicure, you pretty much get what you expect; from the very first sentence, this somewhat girly book clearly and loudly paints a picture of the sort of stories it intends to tell. And, more often than not, anyone that can make it past the first page will have no problem enjoying this book.

Classified as a mystery, the novel is told from a first person perspective; it follows IRS special Agent Tara as she attempts to bring order and justice to her society. The cast is colorful, the story filled with humor and even elements of action.

Anyone that approaches this, the first novel in Tara series, with the expectation of truly breathtaking suspense will be disappointed. If there is a strength that Diane Kelly manifests most prominently, it is the fact that she doesn’t try to make the novel more than it needs to be.

The romance typically supersedes the action, and the mystery exists for the sole purpose of driving the drama between the characters. Some readers have complained that Diane Kelly tries a little too hard to be funny.

+Taxes, Death and a Skinny Taxes No-Whip Latte

The best and soon-to-be-skinniest weapon the U.S treasury has in its arsenal, Tara is on the prowl, out to bag the greatest and richest tax cheats the nation has ever seen.

Tara knew that her decision to join the Criminal Investigation Division would bring her face to face with some real crooks, criminals far more nefarious than waitresses hiding their tips from the IRS.

Tara, with her partner Eddie by her side, must face off against one of the country’s dirtiest felons. The diet Tara is pursuing isn’t doing her mood any favors. She cannot wait to wrap up the case and vacation far, far away.

But before that, she must first deal with reality. Marcos Mendez is a loan shark with deep connections across the Mexican border. Boasting a long and suspicious history, Marcos’ business associates have a tendency to disappear, often resurfacing in body bags. With an increasingly difficult work situation, further complicated by her relationship with Brett, Tara’s tassel with Marcos is one she will not soon forget.

In the second of this Series, Diane Kelly succeeds in writing a book that is even funnier than its predecessors. Bound to leave you in stitches, the novel presents a surprisingly interesting storyline, Diane endeavoring to deliver a solid mystery and a lively heroine.
