Terry Maggert is a reputed American writer of fantasy, paranormal, and science fiction stories. He has written several wonderful books and series in his career. Some of his most popular works include the Halfway Witchy series, Fearless series, Shattered series, Veil series, Messenger series, and the Starcaster series. To write the last two series, he collaborated with author J.N. Chaney. Author Maggert has also penned a couple of standalone books and short story collections. Over the years of his writing career, he has teamed up with a few fellow authors for doing collaborative work. They include Joshua Robertson, Allyson Brooks, Rob Howell, Brett A. Brooks, J. Fitzpatrick Mauldin, and Jeremy Hicks. Maggert was born and brought up in Hollywood, Florida, United States. He likes to describe himself as a left-handed, an apparent nudist’s father, and a half-Norwegian’s loving husband. He loves to keep a big herd of dogs and cats in his house and look after them.
One thing that keeps him filled with energy throughout the day is pie. He claims that he can eat pies more than anyone else and would never complain if he gets only pies for all three meals of the day. Maggert spends most of his daytime writing books. He has been in an unhealthy fascination with monsters and dragons since a very young age. This fascination motivated him to write stories about them and publish them with surprising outcomes. Being a native of Florida, Maggert currently resides in Tennessee. He is not sure if this location is permanent because he is kind of choosy when it comes to selecting a comfortable region to stay. What he particularly looks for in a city when he decides to relocate is the availability of good quality coffee. So far, Maggert has successfully written and released thirty-three books. This number is expected to go up considerably in the times to come. He claims to have not thought about when he is going to put down his pen. He is too sure that it is not going to happen anytime soon.
Unlike many other writers, Maggert does not really get stuck because of writer’s block. The thing that gives him a difficult time the most is time. He is usually running out of time in trying to meet the set deadlines of his publishers. Before deciding to settle down as a full-time writer, Maggert used to work as a professor of history. He was also the owner of a restaurant, but has now left everything else to focus on writing exciting stories of urban and dark fantasy. Maggert’s half-Norwegian wife works as an English professor. He considers her the biggest support in his life and career. Every time Maggert finishes writing a manuscript, his wife is there to proofread, edit, and give important suggestions. She also encourages him to include good grammar in his narratives.
When Maggert was small, he had come across one of the books of Anne McCaffrey, Weyr Search. This book had an electrifying effect on his imagination. Even today, Maggert goes through Anne McCaffrey’s works to get motivated and inspired. Very often, Maggert’s stories tend to take the readers to exciting places that they wish were real. Sometimes, he also sets his plots in real locations so as to make the readers feel connected with the story.
A wonderful series written by author Terry Maggert in his career is known as the Shattered Skies series. This series is also known by the name, the Heartborn series. Maggert began writing this series in 2016 and came up with its debut novel in the same year. He has created the central characters in this series in the roles of Keiron, Livvy Foster, and a few others. The plots take place on Earth and on a fictional island called House Windhook that floats in the sky. Livvy Foster is depicted as a human living on Earth, while Keiron, her guardian angel, hails from House Windhook. Author Maggert has described this series as a magical tale of sacrifice, love, and embracing one’s purpose in life. He has written the books with an easy to understand the narrative that keeps the readers hooked from start to finish.
The debut book of the series is entitled ‘Heartborn’. This book introduces Keiron as a being of love and purity, a savior, a hero, and a guardian angel. He grew up surrounded by deception and violence in his world. But, he was pushed from House Windhook to Earth through time, he understood the real reason for his existence. Keiron came across Livvy Foster, who appeared to him as a broken girl. The events that follow after their first interaction makes both of them realize how they are going to fulfill their destiny. Livvy has lived a life filled with suffering and pain. She hopes to get rid of them as soon as possible and looks for life to give her a hint as to which direction she should be heading to bring a change. As soon as she meets Keiron, he becomes more than simply a friend to her. Having him around makes Lilvvy feel that her heart has become whole. Keiron does everything possible to change Livvy’s sufferings into happiness and her pain into joy.
Keiron realizes his true worth as a Heartborn and comes to terms with the fact that he is destined to sacrifice everything to make Livvy’s life easy. He teaches her how to be brave and turn every adversity into an opportunity for success. His efforts begin to bear fruits when Livvy begins to show signs of self-confidence. After that, it doesn’t take her much time to change from a broken girl to a determined and happy one.
The second installment of this is called ‘Moonborn’. It was published in 2017. This book opens by showing that Livvy Foster has found herself a new home and a new heart. She has started to like living in House Windhook’s powerful halls. Shortly after, she learns about an ongoing civil in which different houses are trying to become the one supreme power. Angles across the sky start challenging each other to prove their worth as a leader of the world. The attempts of House Selius in this regard cause a goddess to become angry. And when this goddess learns about Livvy’s presence in House Windhook, she decides to make another attempt at taking her soul, having failed in the previous attempt because of Keiron. Now, Livvy finds herself in a difficult position and is asked to fight for saving Windhook from evil and also make her world a place to live happily and peacefully.
