Spellmonger is the exciting debut in a series that carries the same name! If you’re looking for an epic fantasy series to check out, read this novel from acclaimed sci-fi author Terry Mancour where readers get to meet the main character of Minalan for the first time.
Minalan could have been a professional warmage. Instead he gave up his potential career so that he could live a life quietly in the village working as a spellmonger. Boval is a far off mountain valley that provides him with the type of peace that he craves. The fief is bubbling with natural beauty and is a world away from the fighting that goes on.
Callidore is a world that sees endless feudal fights going on among the Five Duchies. Both petty and dangerous, it’s the type of thing that he prefers to stay away from. Minalan definitely prefers the quiet life he has settled in the fief, complete with lots of grazing cows that provide plenty of milk that can be then turned into cheese.
Things were going well for about six months. In that time, he had managed to find a nice local shop that he liked, became friends with the lord in town, and gotten acquainted with the folk living in the village and made friends. He had also found a young apprentice that would be able to help him out while learning trade skills and met a young woman that had beautiful eyes.
Everything changes one night when he has to pick up the blade of the mage once more for a serious task. His new home is at risk and being threatened by a goblin army. The gurvani, as they have named themselves, are on a mission to take out all of humanity for good. They want to start a genocide that will ultimately wipe people off the face of this world.
Even worse, the goblins have shamans that are armed up with more power and magic than they have seen in a while. Not since the Imperial Magocracy days of old had this much magic been displayed. They also have a leader to guide the way. This leader is a mysterious force that appears to be full of dark magic, hate, and vengeance. The army is headed towards the Boval valley directly.
Will the people of the village be able to stay safe thanks to the spellmonger? He quickly determines that their only chance is to try and go to the huge Boval Castle to hide away for a while. If they can do that, they may be able to hold out against a siege that includes thousands of goblins.
Minalan is trying to protect the people of the fief, but things aren’t looking good. For one thing, there are tons of goblins coming their way. The numbers are simply staggering. On top of that, they want this to be their staging ground, the place where they are going to begin their invasion of the Five Duchies. The only thing that may be able to stop them is this newcomer to the village.
He’s going to have to contend with more than just an army. With a rival mage that is jealous of his role and magical abilities, a group of mercenaries that are a motley crew, a liege lord that believes their victory is close upon them even though the army has not even arrived, and more. With romantic troubles and magical rivals appearing everywhere, this guy has his work cut out for him.
Will the castle be able to keep all of them safe through this siege? Minalan hopes that it will, but only taking on the goblins will allow them to have some effect on the horde. He was born the son to a baker that wanted to be a spellmonger. This is his chance to practice magic to protect the local people. Will he be successful? Read this book to find out!
Warmage is the second book in the Spellmonger series. The reader last left Minalan facing up against endless goblin soldiers. There’s no time to rest as now undead goblin armies are in motion. Everyone begins fleeing the area as tons of goblins come their way from Boval Vale.
The shamans that follow the Dead God are also doing their best to make defense of the realm difficult for the country knights of Alshari. With Dukes going through the motions of feudal politics to try and benefit themselves, Minalan feels like he and his outlaw friends are the only ones that care that an invasion is happening.
Someone’s going to have to raise an army up to fight the Dead God’s armies or they’re going to take over the five Duchies. Then it’ll really be too late. Minalan must contend with a young assassin, a new man servant, a group of warmagi, spoiled nobles, and more.
Will the Dukes give him the money and troops necessary? He’s going to have to work quickly and get the courts to collaborate to keep the hordes at bay. It appears he’s the only person capable of taking on this threat. Can he save the world again? Read this book to find out!
