The Bobbsey Twins series by Laura Lee Hope

The Stratemeyer Syndicate writes the “Bobbsey Twins” series of children’s fiction books. To publish them, they use the pen name of Laura Lee Hope. This group of writers used the name for other children’s series as well.

The series began publication in the year 1904, when “The Bobbsey Twins of Lakeport” was released.

The series had 72 volumes published in the original series, the last of which was published in 1979, and was called “The Coral Turtle Mystery”. After this, there were two attempts to restart the series, but neither one was as strong as the original series. Some of the older volumes were re-written, in the year 1960, making the books unrecognizable in the process.

Detective plots began to dominate the series of novels, as Nancy Drew and the Hardy Boys books began growing in popularity. Before, these books were made up of episodic strings of adventures.

At first, the characters would age in each book. Editors soon noticed that the characters would quickly age beyond their readers’. They made the later books, as well as later editions, take place in a part of chronological stasis, making the younger twins always six and the older twins twelve.

Nan Bobbsey has dark hair and dark eyes, as does her twin, Bert. Freddie Bobbsey has blue eyes and blond hair, as does his twin sister, Flossie. Their parents are Richard Bobbsey, who owns a lumber yard in Lakeport, and Mary Bobbsey, who is a stay-at-home mother.

The Bobbsey’s cook is Dinah Johnson, who is married to Sam Johnson, who works as the Bobbsey’s handyman. The Bobbsey’s have some animals, too. There is Snoop, their cat. A duck, named Downy, and two dogs named Snap and Waggo.

“The Bobbsey Twins of Lakeport” is the first novel in the “Bobbsey Twins” series, which was released in the year 1904. This book follows Flossie and Freddie, six years old, as well as Nan and Bert, twelve years old. They are two pairs of audacious twins during an entire school year.

Windows get broken by errant snowballs, some serious rope-skipping accidents happen, and moonlit ghosts are haunting the feet of beds while the twins learn some important lessons about responsibility, having fun, and love.

Readers enjoyed reading these when they were kids, and with their own kids, too. The book is packed with its share of action and the kids all have character.

“Adventure in the Country” is the second novel in the “Bobbsey Twins” series, which was released in the year 1907. The twins are headed out to the country to see their Aunt Sarah for the summer. Bert and Nan, now twelve, and Flossie and Freddie, six, stumble right into excitement and a family friendly mystery.

They go to their aunt and uncle’s farm in Meadowbrook where they will be able to go to the local auction and explore all of the countryside. Their cousins’ prized bull disappears on them, and the twins search to track down the bull and catch whoever stole them.

These books have their positive values in them, and overall, are rather wholesome. Not to mention the part that these are not as scary as some of the other mystery books that are aimed at kids. These are excellent books that will take readers back to this time in history very well.

“The Bobbsey Twins At the Seashore” is the third novel in the “Bobbsey Twins” series, which was released in the year 1907. Adventure and mystery follow the Bobbsey twins while they are on their trip to Ocean Cliff. While they are looking for driftwood and clams on the shore, the discover a mysterious message in a bottle. Is this clue going to help them rescue a little girl’s dad?

For some, these books help them relive their childhood. The characters are well drawn and the vocabulary is rather sophisticated, too. Readers enjoy reading about these kids’ adventures and the troubles they get into, as they always work out by the end.

“The Bobbsey Twins At School” is the fourth novel in the “Bobbsey Twins” series, which was released in the year 1913. Bert is picked to help the principal of the school run a small museum in the school. Its first day, the most valuable statue of the museum goes missing. It means the twins have to help locate it.

These kids are not perfect and will in fact get into arguments, like real kids will do. Here is another cute story from the series. For some, these books were important because of the way they helped get them into reading books.

“The Bobbsey Twins At Snow Lodge” is the fifth novel in the “Bobbsey Twins” series, which was released in the year 1913. After an unlikely encounter with Mr. Carford, the twins find out that he once ran the Snow Lodge, which is now-closed. They find out from their dad that Carford used to live at the Lodge with Dave, his nephew, until a huge amount of money went missing. Carford accused his nephew of taking the cash, but Mr. Bobbsey knows that this isn’t true. Will the twins find out what really happened to the missing cash and reunite both the lonely Carford with Dave?

Another very fun adventure with the Bobbsey Twins. The books contain some sweet stories that have lessons in them applicable to life in today’s world.

“The Bobbsey Twins On a Houseboat” is the sixth novel in the “Bobbsey Twins” series, which was released in the year 1915. Snap never said if he would or not. Flossie was waiting for her brother on the side porch. She was only a bit smaller in height and his age. She had the same light and curly hair, and just as plump and fat as him.

Once again, this book gives readers a delightful story about the Bobbsey Twins, while they go on an adventure. It is a cute and fun read, and all of these books do a superb job of standing up to the test of time.
