The Godhunter series by Amy Sumida features a tough and brave heroine named Vervain, much determined to fight the gods who exploit and kill humans.
The first novel in the series is Godhunter, a great start to the polyamorous series. The books are linked to each other and should be read in chronological order for a fascinating experience.

Godhunter
Hunting is an advantage as it involves tracking skills where swiftness can kill the hunter. Vervain, the lead character, speaks of how she is not a hunter anymore. She isn’t a necromancer but a godhunter. She does everything possible to stay alive and doesn’t do the job for pleasure.

From the day she learned that gods live amongst human beings exploiting and murdering them, she began fighting against them. She tells how she has trained with swords and magic to be strong enough to bring them down. However, during the transition of her huge battle, everything she knows has turned upside down by a man and offered to ally, a man who happens to be a god. In this version of earth, the gods have their divine according to their human beliefs and faith.
Vervain isn’t crazy at all, and the reason she kills gods is so that they don’t kill her first. She killed her first god by accident since it was self-defense. The rest of the kills were because of fear of retribution of the other gods and desire to keep the humans safe from supernatural beings.

Vervain and the gods are well-rounded characters, and the story settings are vividly described. It’s full of great wry humor that will leave you smiling. The action scenes give the story a good pace making it fun to read. She has issues in her life, but she tries getting her shit in order and even gets herself a man. Their story is funny, adorable, sad, dramatic, and, more importantly, entertaining.

The novel is narrated from Vervain’s point of view, where the author makes the readers understand her better. She is the center of the universe, and people are focused on her and anything that could happen to her or happen to her. She is also a relatable character, and even though she is far from perfect, she is loyal, caring, and funny.

Vervain was a daughter of a single mother and has abandonment issues and low self-esteem due to her appearance. There are times when she is taken by her enemies and suffers a lot of pain. The novel kicks off like a loner warrior against the gods and is caught upon crazier issues in life, including having her first-ever protector.

Samida incorporates humor to bring more fun to the story to keep her fans entertained. She has written a whole cast of excellent characters with depth and complexity, making it easy to connect with them. The author has also done an excellent job of world-building consistently and realistically. It’s so fascinating how she weaves the god’s stories from different cultures to make the story.

Of Gods and Wolves
Of Gods and Wolves is the second novel in The God Hunter series. Vervain Lavine has a moment to stay calm and relaxed after defeating Aphrodite and taking her magic back from the goddess who had stolen it from the humans.

In this installment, she is back and knee-deep in trouble once again. She is trying to adjust to her new powers and shinier appearance. This time she has Trevor, Thor, and the God squad in her court while Blue is out there, all twisted and cruel.

She is currently courting Thor, but Trevor, the werewolf prince, is more bonded. However, Trevor’s father, Fenrir, doesn’t want the bond to continue, and now she has to keep herself and Trevor alive. Vervain is trying to save her own life with the assistance of God Squad by taking down the gods who want to gain more power through destruction and killing. She has made so many enemies and has several men interested in her.

Possessing Aphrodite powers, proving herself means fighting three opponent wolves, and as if that’s not enough, Demeter is looking for her blood as Blue seems to back on his old tricks.

She also possesses the powers of war, love, and victory inside her, but she isn’t sure whether it makes her a goddess. Vervain is partially sure that she is mortal, but her immortal boyfriend, Thor, isn’t worried about it all.

What makes him worried is her relationship with a werewolf prince, Trevor. There is also the issue of a Harvest goddess, the mother of the girl Vervain rescued, and the Aztec god no one has ever seen since Vervain interrupted with his plan to start a war.

All the arguments are worthy of concern, but Vervain doesn’t to worry. For a mortal witch, trying to keep up with the gods is a special moment, so she lets them plan and plot against her as she tries to laugh off her anxieties.

The story is packed with action as a lot is going on in Vervain’s life. The humorous scenes, tender moments, and tough decisions make the story unique. The author has done a great job fascinatingly explaining the mythological people. For fans of action-packed adventure and romance novels with a brave heroine, this is a perfect read for you.

Marked by Death

After the fight in Asgard, Vervain, the Godhunter wants to celebrate the victory with her family and friends in this fourth novel of the series. Her friends are gods, and her family is made of many werewolves and werelions.

The wound she got from Anubis’ blade has spread, and the cold is spreading in her body, making her worried. It has also formed a link with the Egyptian God of the dead, who appears to intend to make her pay for attacking him.

On the other hand, Demeter is out to get Vervain and Ares, who might be having a grudge after the loss of his lover and one hand. The gods want to see her dead, and then there is a goddess seeking Vervain’s help in stopping a drug dealer who is a god too.
Will Vervain celebrate her victory knowing so well she is wanted dead?
