Publication Order of The Vampire Diaries: Stefan's Diaries Books

By: L.J. Smith, Julie Plec

The Vampire Diaries: Stefans Diaries is the prequel to this book series, which has several series. This is the first instalment in this series and it has proven to be such a success that it has been developed into a television series. The first book is called “Origins” and it’s set in the year 1864 when ourCivil War raged. However, 17-year old Stefan is waging a battle of his own. Even though he is engaged to marry someone called Rosalyn, he does not love her and instead falls in love with a mysterious woman called Katherine.

She is a beautiful woman with brown eyes and gleaming curls and she is so seductive. However, she also has a very dark secret because she’s a vampire. One of the things that you’ll notice when you read the book is the fact that it is based entirely on the televised version of the series. So if you like the show, you’ll find this book very interesting to read. Even dialogue from the actual show has been included in this book, and entire plot lines such as the doomed engagement between Stefan and Rosalyn have been added.

It follows the lives of three teens who are apparently involved in a love triangle. The author has added an interesting twist to the tale because things don’t pan out in the exact manner as it happened on the televised show. This means that you might get confused if you decide to read the book after watching the televised show. The book is well written, with good grammar and there are no typos, which might seem trivial but one can get irritated by constant errors even if you’re reading a good book.

The book also provides us with the history of Anna and Pearl who are some of the characters of the book. We learn that they were born during America’s Revolution and that Katherine is their mother. At it most basic, this book series is a tale of two brothers called Stefan and Damon but it is mostly concerned about what is going on in Stefan’s life. The author appears to have forgotten about Damon’s journey, which is a bit disappointing because it would have made the whole experience richer. Damon was the one who didn’t need to be forced to do anything and he was very accepting of Katherine’s dark side.

Damon loved Katherine even though he knew she is a vampire, and that’s why he pursued her for the next 145 years. Even though Katherine was a manipulative person who was only interested in self preservation, Damon still wanted her. If you have seen the televised show, you will miss the mother and daughter combination of Katherine and Anna. This prequel is an enjoyable read and the good thing is that another volume is on the way for all you Vampire Diaries fans.

The second book in The Vampire Diaries: Stefans Diaries series is called “Bloodlust” and it presents a new beginning. When Stefan’s first love made him a vampire, things went from bad to worse and his world came crashing down. Now he and his brother, Damon, must flee their hometown or risk being discovered and killed. So the brothers decide to go to New Orleans and find a safe haven. However, this city is even more dangerous than the brothers could imagine. It was crawling with vampires, and there were vampire hunters all over the place. The reader is therefore kept in suspense wondering if Stefan’s eternal existence if going to be damned forever.

If you have always wondered how Damon became the character that you see on the televised show, this book will provide you with the background information. The book also reveals the start of the feud between these two brothers who are also in love with a vampire. Stefan and Damon have always been polar opposites of each other. Whereas Stefan seems noble and calculating, Damon appears like a play boy but in reality, he wants to keep his charismatic side a secret. The fate of the two brothers are also completely opposite because Stefan was very fortunate because a vampire called Lexi took him in while his brother, Damon, was captured by a gang and tortured.

Although this book has been written withStefan being the star, Damon has also found himself in the spotlight. Stefan appears lost and trying to discover himself while Damon looks like a man who is fighting to secure his destiny. Damon reaches a breaking point when several things conspire against him. First of all, Katherine dies, which leads him down a destructive path and he soon succumbs to his human bloodlust. The torture by a gang is the final straw, and it turns Damon into the character that we love to hate on the televised show.

In Bloodlust, Damon goes a separate direction from Stefan, and he has two goals on his mind. Firstly, he wants to become strong so that he can fulfill his second goal, which is to make Stefan’s life one living hell. When Lexi takes Stefan under her wings, she tries to educate him on the lifestyle of the vampires and how they’re supposed to behave. She teaches him that if he feeds on humans, he’ll become drunk with power, which will eventually get him killed. Eating from animals was encouraged and so Stefan starts to learn a new diet.

There is an interesting twist in this story and without giving much away, Stefan does Damon a favor hoping that he would be thankful for what his brother has done for him. Instead, Damon turns around and does a horrible thing, which makes his brother want to get away from him as far as possible. If you enjoy vampire stories, The Vampire Diaries: Stefans Diaries is a book series that will leave you thoroughly entertained. The series takes you on a journey into time and you will find yourself starting to question human mortality. The author has done a good job in developing the characters, and you will get a better perspective of the television series after reading this book series.
