The Thirds book series is a popular series of paranormal romance, fantasy, mystery, military fiction, crime fiction, and urban fantasy stories. It is written by an international bestselling Cuban author named Charlie Cochet. The series is comprised of 10 books released between 2014 and 2017. All the books are filled with action, humor, and romance. Charlie Cochet depicted an organization in this series called Thirds that works to uphold the law for Therians and Humans without prejudice. The series begins by explaining that a deadly virus called Melanoe was released during the biological warfare of the Vietnam War. This virus spread to different parts of the world, infected millions, and changed human history’s course forever.

Scientists came up with a vaccine called Eppione.8 that was created from animal strains that were unaffected by the virus. This vaccine resulted in the activation of a dormant mutation inside the virus in the body of the affected ones, altered their DNA sequence, and resulted in the formation of a new species called Therians. To restore peace and social order, the US government made new laws and regulations in conjunction with the Therian government. Eventually, an elite agency funded by the military was launched by the Human & Therian legislature in 1990 called Therian Human Intelligence Recon Defense Squadron, aka THIRDS. It comprised of equal Therian and Human agents. The agents consider themselves a family and stand for each other in time of thick and thin.

While performing their duties, they find their true love and indulge in love affairs. Every day in the life of a Third agent is filled with challenges. One thing that they follow with all their heart is standing up for the things they believe in. Also, they consider protecting the ones they love as non-optional. Some of the lead characters created by Charlie Cochet in this series include Dexter Daley, Sloane Brodie, Beck Hogan, Lieutenant Sparks, Ash, Sebastian Hobbs, Cael Maddock, Ethan Hobbs, Calvin Summers, Gina Daley, Hudson Colbourn, etc.

The debut book of the Thirds series is entitled ‘Hell & High Water’. It was self-published by Charlie Cochet in 2014. The setting takes place in New York City and features Sloane Brodie and Dexter Daley in primary roles. Initially, it is mentioned that homicide detective Dexter Daley gives his testimony to send away his partner for murder and is left to deal with its consequences. Following his testimony, he loses all his friends, his boyfriend, and everyone else he held dear. Dexter feels that he will either be transferred from the Sixth Precinct or get dismissed. His adoptive dad is a sergeant working for the Thirds, who uses his connections and gets Dexter recruited as a Third agent.

With the determination of getting his life back on track, Dexter Daley begins the new job. However, he indulges in a disastrous first encounter with his new team leader named Sloane Brodie. Sloane is also Dexter’s new jaguar Therian partner. When Sloane Brodie’s team is asked to investigate the brutal murders of 3 Human/Therian activists, Dexter finds it difficult to blend in with the other agents in the team. He realizes that it is going to be much harder for him to make his partner and the tight knit team accept him than catching the murderer. Also, every step is filled with danger and Dexter cannot afford to make even a slight mistake or else he will end up losing his life.

The second volume of the series is known as ‘Blood & Thunder’. It was also self-published by the author in 2014. This novel opens by mentioning that several bombs go off in a youth center and injure the members of the Destructive Delta Team of the Thirds. The incident also causes a rift between Sloane Brodie and Dexter Daley. It is learned that a frightening group called the Order of Adrasteia has emerged with the aim of destroying Third. As this new group always stays a step ahead, it bothers Dexter and Sloane a lot. And as intolerance and panic begin to spread rapidly on the streets, Therians and Humans start growing hostile. The dedicated agents are determined to put a halt to the activities of the Order and bring back peace in the city. They also try to make peace with themselves and forget their differences.

The investigations of Sloane & Dexter reveal that the Order has planned a more sinister thing than just spread chaos and shed blood. And as the frightful truths about the real intent of the Order are discovered, Sloane is forced to confront the secrets of his past that he had kept hidden for so long. If the secrets are uncovered, it would destroy Slone as well as his career. Dexter becomes more determined to save his partner and the reputation of the organization. With each other’s support, the agents end the Order once and for all and destroy all its evil plans.

Charlie Cochet is a bestselling author of paranormal, gay romance, and suspense novels, hailing from Havana, Cuba. She is particularly famous for writing the Thirds novels.
