Thomas R. Weaver is a published author from the United Kingdom.

His debut novel was Artificial Wisdom. It was picked for the BBC Radio 2 Book Club and has done well enough that it has been translated into other languages so that readers can enjoy it (German and French, with potential for more to come). He followed this book up with its highly anticipated sequel, Infinite Wisdom.

He states that he writes stories that are about tomorrow so that readers and he himself can make sense of today. Artificial Wisdom was first released as an indie feature before being picked up by Penguin Random House. It was then re-released with extra content in the US by Del Rey and by Bantam in the U.K. and Commonwealth.

Apart from being a writer, Weaver is also a tech entrepreneur. The last startup that he did ended up being acquired by Just Eat Takeaway. He reports that his new one is still in stealth mode but does have the benefit of being backed by a huge Silicon Valley tech accelerator. In addition to this, Weaver also invests in many different early-stage startups.

Even though all of this has happened, initially Weaver says that he believed that he never thought that he would be able to use his degree in Computer Science. He left university so that he could run the UK branch of a student organization before spending years working on/building expertise in the evolution of physical environments and how tech might be able to change the types of experiences that we have in such places as shops, schools, theaters, and more.

This led directly to a tech startup starting in the restaurant hospitality space, where payment and ordering experiences were transformed, before he pivoted to a platform that would enable tech to interface with a restaurant. He would leave in 2018/2019, and then he realized that he didn’t have anything standing in the way of doing what he had always wanted to do, which was to write fiction.

Weaver blames Roald Dahl for this, as he was 7 when he read the BFG and was so inspired by the character of Sophie reading the description of the dream of writing a book that was so exciting that no one could put it down, and he wanted to write that book and come up with some page-turners of his own.

The author says that if he can give one person that same experience of reading the experience inside of the BFG’s dream, he will feel that he has succeeded. He told his friends and family that he would never choose to run a startup again, but eventually started a new one that was centered around bringing a portion of the ideas in his novel Artificial Wisdom to life, especially when it comes to communicating in augmented reality.

Thomas is a husband, father, and a cook. He has a lot of hobbies that his wife says make him sound like he is an older man in his eighties, such as drawing, chess, and painting. He likes to collect more books than he has time to read, and loves a book with a great or beautiful cover.
