Tony DiTerlizzi
Tony DiTerlizzi, born September 6, 1969, is a children’s book creator, fantasy artist, and a motion picture producer. He is best known in the gaming industry, for his work in the collectible card game Magic: The Gathering.
His last name is pronounced Dee-Tur-leet-zee. It translates from Italian to “of Terlizzi”, which is the town his ancestors immigrated from on his dad’s side. Terlizzi is in the Bari province of southern Italy. Even though he has visited some major cities in Italy (including Venice, Lucca, Florence, and Milan), he hasn’t yet made it to Terlizzi.
He was born in Los Angeles, California, however he and his parents didn’t stay in California for long. Tony spent the majority of his youth growing up in Jupiter, Florida. Tony is the oldest of three siblings (a sister and a brother). All of whom are artistically inclined thanks to a supportive dad and a creative mother.
He has been making handmade books since he was a child. During his time in Boy Scouts, he made a book on dinosaurs, which his mom helped him on. He made a pocket field guide to insects that he had collected. He even made a comic book about his pet hamster Max.
At the age of twelve, he made a book titled “Gondwanaland” about this mysterious island that was filled with mysterious and strange creatures.
Tony went to Florida public schools such as the Hobe Sound Elementary, Murray Middle School, and South Fork High School. He enrolled in many colleges, which includes a brief stint studying at the Florida School of the Arts. He got his degree in graphic design from The Art Institute of Ft. Lauderdale in the year 1992.
Tony is a huge reader and he collects a bunch of early editions of kid’s books and classic literature. He also enjoys seeing how these tales get adapted into film, and enjoys watching movies. His friends will tell anybody that asks that he is a nut for old pop and rock music, particularly from the seventies and eighties. He is a collector of old games, toys, and knickknacks from when he was a kid.
Tony is a child that grew up outdoors and just loves being out in nature. He likes biking, hiking, and taking a bunch of pictures, particularly macro-photographs of insects.
“The Spiderwick Chronicles” was adapted into a movie in the year 2008, and Tony served as executive producer.
Tony won a Caldecott Honor Medal for his adaptation of “The Spider and the Fly”.
Tony’s debut novel, called “Ted”, was released in the year 2001. His work is from the children’s fiction and young adult fantasy.
“Kenny and the Dragon” is the first novel in the “Kenny and the Dragon” series and was released in the year 2008. What do you do when your new best buddy has been designated a scourge by the community and marked for imminent extermination? Just ask Kenny Rabbit.
When all the simple folks in the sleepy little village of Roundbrook learn that there is a dragon running around loose in the countryside, they get the wrong idea and then set the stage for a battle to the death. It is up to Kenny to give his neighbors front-row seat to one of the best-known fights in history. The legendary showdown between St. George and the dragon, without losing a single friend in the fight.
“Kenny and the Book of Beasts” is the second novel in the “Kenny and the Dragon” series and was released in the year 2020. Kenny has to cope with a lot of changes in his life, including the fear that he is losing his very best friend.
What could possibly come between a pair of best friends?
Some time has gone by since Kenny Rabbit’s previous adventure with his best buddy, the legendary dragon called Grahame. Quite a lot has changed in the idyllic village of Roundbrook. Kenn has got a whole litter of baby sisters. All of his friends are going to different schools and Sir George is going off on an adventure of his own.
At least Kenny’s still got his very best friend, Grahame. That is before Dante comes. He is a legendary manticore as well as an old friend of Grahame’s. Old friends spend quite a lot of time catching up with each other. This catching up does not include Kenny.
However there is still a Witch to defeat, a mysterious book that has to be unlocked, and a pal to rescue. These are quests for best friends, not some old friends. Correct?
“The Search for WondLa” is the first novel in the “WondLa” series and was released in the year 2010. When a killer destroys the underground sanctuary that Eva Nine grew up in by Muthr the robot, the twelve year old girl has to flee above ground. She looks for anybody like her, for she knows other humans exist, because one item she treasures, a piece of cardboard on which is depicted an adult, a young girl, and a robot with an odd word “WondLa”.
“A Hero for WondLa” is the second novel in the “WondLa” series and was released in the year 2012. Eva Nine hadn’t ever seen another human, however after a human boy named Hailey rescues her with the rest of her companions, and she could not be any happier. Eva believes she has got everything she has ever dreamt of, particularly when Hailey brings her buddies and her to a colony of New Attica, where humans of all sizes and shapes live in apparent harmony and peace.
All isn’t idyllic in New Attica. Eva quickly realizes that something rather sinister is happening, and if she doesn’t it, it might mean the end of everybody and everything on planet Orbona.
“The Battle for WondLa” is the third novel in the “WondLa” series and was released in the year 2014. All the hope for a peaceful coexistence between aliens and humans seems lost.
Eva Nine has gone into hiding out of fear for luring the wicked Loroc to her companions. But, news of Solas getting captured by Cadmus Pryde, the human leader, forces Eva to step into action again. Eva, getting help from an unlikely ally, attempts to thwart Loroc’s ultimate plan for the alien life on Orbona as well as mankind.
