And it isn’t just the snow globes, which can talk, or the animals, which tend to whisper. There is magic in the unusual little town.

This is a charming story from Tonya Kappes, a cozy mystery with magical elements and a significant twist. The story kicks off with June Heal learning about Whispering Falls from her friend. June made a few mistakes and her experimentation led to her shed burning down.

She must now find another place to house her shop. She has nothing to lose in moving to Whispering Falls, even though she knows nothing about it. It doesn’t take June long to realize that something is amiss in Whispering Falls. None the less, she is determined to persevere and succeed in the small town.

Things become a little disturbing when June learns that her mother, the original owner of the homeopathic shop, used to operate out of Whispering Falls. If that revelation isn’t disturbing enough, a body is discovered in the lake.

All eyes turn to June, the newest member of the town, who begins working to clear her name. While this isn’t exactly Kappes’ best book, it holds a lot of promise. The premise is great, and so is the little village in which all the action takes place.

As one might expect from Kappes, her characters are unique and quirky, many of them boasting special talents. There is room to grow, which is expected from the first book in a series.

The book would qualify as a light read. There is nothing especially intense or overwhelming about it. If the book has one significant failing, it’s the rather lacking editing.

Olivia Davis hit the jackpot when she crafted the idea of an online breakup service. Through Splitsville.com, Olivia was able to do the dirty work for other people under the alias of Jenn. And because they couldn’t figure out her true identity, she had nothing to fear from disgruntled individuals looking to threaten her for her actions.

Olivia chose to go down this route because her curse, or gift depending on who you ask, couldn’t permit her to keep a job. Her ability to read auras has always proven to be a burden, preventing her from functioning in some cases.

By working online, Olivia can earn a living even while avoiding the complications that her powers introduce. However, the seemingly risk-free nature of her online work is tested when two clients die. With her company in jeopardy, Olivia uses her gift to try and track the killer down.

People tend to flock towards this book because of the intriguing plot. Olivia is a woman that breaks up with people on behalf of others. Her concept is pretty simple. All you have to do is fill out a form, make a payment and then sit back as Olivia makes that phone call you are too afraid to make yourself. Olivia is persistent, continuously pushing until the person being dumped gets the message.

Once the deed is done, the client receives a confirmation message. Things fall apart when two clients end up dead. Now her business is at risk, especially as the murder investigations intensify.

Olivia cannot afford to let people know her true identity. She gets a few friends together and tries to track down the person who murdered her clients. This book is a fun read, definitely one of Tonya Kappes’ best.

     I checked her social media and Heavens to Bribery was moved from September 2022 to sometime in 2023.
