The American writer Trent Reedy is an award winning author of both children’s and adult fiction, creating fun and action packed novels. Moving at a high speed, he manages to capture a high-octane level of adrenaline within his more action fuelled novels, whilst also allowing enough room for strong character development as well. Along with this he has also created a number of fun and inventive children’s novels as well, showing himself to be a clear master of both crafts. Clearly gifted at what he does, he has managed to reach a worldwide audience of readers from all across the globe. This comes from, in part, his easily accessible style, including his understanding of the genres both inside as well as out.

Serving in the United States Army, he was posted in Afghanistan, an experience which would serve to introduce him to a lifelong interest in everything about the country. Combining science-fiction and thrillers, he would find himself writing for an audience of Young Adult readers, bringing in themes such as gaming. This would then serve to become hugely popular, as he came to be appreciated by both critics and the general public alike. Always a keen storyteller from an early age, he would utilize his love of the craft alongside his time and spent serving in the army, with the many experiences gained there. With a lot more titles planned for release in the near future, it appears that he isn’t stopping any time soon either, with a lot more to come yet.

Early and Personal Life

Growing up in Iowa where he was born and raised, Trent Reedy would grow up in Dysart, a small farming town that was located there. It was here that he would first begin to discover his love and passion for telling stories as a craft, something which he would go on to develop throughout the years. Experiencing a pleasant carefree upbringing, he would come to appreciate his childhood there in its small and quiet community, with plenty of space and room. Writing a number of stories at school, he would come to love writing fantasy stories, showing a powerful and highly inventive imagination. Over time he would come to develop this love of literature, both reading and writing it, as he would nurture it both in as well as out of school.

He would take this love of literature into higher education, as he would attend the University of Iowa, whereby he would study and major in English. During the summer he would join the Iowa National Guard, whereby he would serve as a combat engineer for two weeks in the summer, along with one weekend a month. Following his graduation he would then be called upon to serve in Afghanistan, an experience which would come to shape him in the following years to come. Safely returning, he would embark upon his writing career once again, something which he continues to this very day from his home in Spokane, Washington.

Writing Career

It was in the month of January 2011 that Trent Reedy would come to develop his first debut novel, it being titled ‘Words in the Dust’. This was a story that he had wanted to tell for a long time, as it was about a young thirteen-year-old girl living in Afghanistan. Introducing him to the reading public at large, his fate as a successful writer of Young Adult and children’s literature was then secured. In time he would also come to write a highly successful and popular franchise titled the ‘Divided We Fall Trilogy’, the first book coming out in 2014, it being called ‘Divided We Fall’. Following the character of Danny Wright as its lead character, it would be a Young Adult series that would be set within the world of the military.

Winning a number of awards for his writing as well, he would also gain the ‘Golden Kite Award of Fiction’ as well. This would see him become a highly sought after voice throughout the industry, as he has travelled extensively, espousing the virtues and art of his craft worldwide. Constantly on the lookout for his next big idea, his writing career continues to grow from strength-to-strength, and will carry on doing so for a long time yet.

The Last Full Measure

Released through the ‘Arthur A. Levine’ publishing label, this would be the third title in the ‘Divided We Fall Trilogy’. Published on the 26th of April in 2016 it would pick up directly from where the last left off. Working as an integral part of an overall series, it is a Young Adult novel from Reedy showing some of his best work to date.

Having started the Second American Civil War after his weapon inadvertently went of during a routine crowd control operation, he’s now glad to be out of the action finally. Free from control of the Feds, he and his friends are also free of control finally in the home state of Idaho, which means he must contend with food shortages and power struggles. Not only that, but a group called the Brotherhood of the White Eagle has some nefarious intentions, leading him and his friends to move across state in order to begin their own society. Where will their journey take them? Can they ever hope to start afresh? What really is the last full measure?

Gamer Army

First brought out through the ‘Arthur A. Levine’ publishing outlet, this was initially released in 2018 on the 27th of November. Working entirely as a stand-alone novel, this wasn’t to be a part of any series or franchise as such, with a self-contained storyline. Released at a later period in Reedy’s writing career, this shows a clear sense of development within his work, providing a greater level of insight into how he has developed as an author.

An expert at video-games, young Rogan Webber is one of the best at Laser Viper, which is his favorite game of all time. This then leads to the maker of the game inviting him to his mansion, along with a number of other top players, in order to play and compete in a new gaming experience. At first it appears that all their dreams have come true, but soon it begins to transpire that not everything is as it first seems. The game is getting increasingly difficult, the enemies in-game are acting oddly, and there’s some increasingly strange game glitches occurring. What’s really going on here and who is pulling the strings? Can they decipher it all before it’s too late? Who will be left to create the ultimate gamer army?
