Trevor Negus
Trevor Negus was born in Enfield, north London and spent the early years of his childhood at Waltham Cross. His parents emigrated to Australia when he was eight. Then he spent just over two years living in Rockhampton, Central Queensland.

In 1971, the family came back to the UK and settled in the mining community of Mansfield, Nottinghamshire. And in 1975, he joined the Nottinghamshire Constabulary as a Police Cadet, and became a regular officer in the year 1978. as a uniform constable he learned his craft in the pressure cooker environment that is inner city Nottingham which at that time had one of the highest violent crime rates in all of the UK.

Trevor, during a varied thirty year police career, spent six years as an authorized firearms officer and sniper, before he transferred onto the CID. He then spent the final twelve years of his career as a detective, becoming the specialist interviewer that was involved in the planning and implementation of interviews with murder suspects. He retired from the force in the year 2007, and became the Director of a Specialist Laser Clinic and Training Academy.

Trevor, who’s been a keen writer throughout his entire adulthood, made the choice to devote more time to writing after leaving the police force.

“Evil in Mind” is the first novel in the “DI Danny Flint” series and was released in 2021. Two evil men, one lethal obsession.

When DI Danny Flint is called on to look into a fatal accident at the coal mine, he finds himself investigating the largest case of his entire career. Because Flint quickly realizes that this wasn’t any accident, it was actually cold-blooded murder. And he fears that the perpetrator will murder again.

However the truth’s that much more horrifying. Two evil psychopaths have teamed up, and they are now carefully selecting their female victims while embarking on a horrible killing spree.

Flint’s desperate to find these mystery murderers before they can strike again and so starts a lethal game of cat and mouse that is all set against the backdrop of a bitter miners’ strike. And then, while slowly closing in on this evil pair, he learns that somebody he cares about is in horrible danger.

This is an excellent read and it truly invokes memories of what things were actually like during the time of the strike. Trevor delivers an utterly compelling and chilling story and is one of those novels that grabs your attention right from the very start. This is a slow burn mystery featuring two different serial killers with pretty complex MO’s. It’s a unique police procedural, both in terms of style of writing and its narrative construction.

“Dead and Gone” is the second novel in the “DI Danny Flint” series and was released in 2021. They were once the predators, however now they are the prey.

Nottinghamshire in 1986. Two bodies are found at different ends of the county. Each of the victims are men, and they’ve both been mutilated and tortured. These murders have obviously been committed by the same person, at both scenes, the walls have been daubed with an identical series of numbers and letters, painted in the victim’s own blood.

Detective Chief Inspector Danny Flint, who is now in charge of the newly formed Major Crime Investigation Unit, is being tasked with finding and apprehending this killer.

While the body count continues to rise, Flint and his team understand that they are going up against a predator that will kill again and again. However it is only when they decipher the ominous code left behind at the murder scenes do they realize that they are in a race against time. Should they lose, the final victim’s going to be one of their own.

This is a well written story and captures your interest right away and holds it until the end. There’s thrills, action, suspense, and adventure with some well developed characters that are intriguing and easy to get to know.

“A Cold Grave” is the third novel in the “DI Danny Flint” series and was released in 2021. Sometimes evil hides in plain sight.

When a young boy’s body is found at a remote beauty spot in Nottinghamshire, the autopsy reveals that he was sexually assaulted before being suffocated.

Chief Inspector Danny Flint and his team are determined to track down the perpetrator of this disturbing crime and their investigation leads them into a murky world of child exploitation at Children’s Homes all across the county.

However then, right in the middle of this major case, a thunderbolt in the form of Danny’s old enemy: a horrifying psychopath named Jimmy Wade, has just escaped from a secure mental hospital. He is looking to get revenge and only Flint and his team can stop the guy.

These two separate investigations set Danny and his team on their most difficult case yet, and stretches them to their very limits. Can they track down Wade before he’s able to kill again? And can they possibly get justice for the innocent boy that was found buried in a cold grave?

“Taken to Die” is the fourth novel in the “DI Danny Flint” series and was released in 2021. There are thousands of schoolgirls in this city. However she is the one that he wants. Emily Whitchurch is the fourteen year old daughter of two high powered barristers, and she vanishes while on her way back home from school.

Her parents put some intense pressure on the cops to find her and the job lands on DCI Danny Flint and his team’s desk at MCIU. Danny starts investigating and quickly learns that the Whitchurches aren’t exactly the perfect family they’ve been pretending to be. Each one of them has dark secrets, including Emily.

While he attempts to cut through a web of lies and get right to the truth, a sinister ransom note shows up and it’s then that Danny realizes that they’re in a race against the clock. With the team working flat out to crack this case, Danny understands finally that this isn’t any ordinary kidnapping, rather Emily has been taken to die.
