Victoria Laurie is a New York Times bestselling author from the United States of America, who writes fiction novels in the Mystery and thriller genres. She has also written short stories for children and young adults. Victoria has written more than 26 books and is still busy writing a few others. Her most notable works include The Psychic Eye Mysteries and The Ghost Hunter Mysteries. She is known to have given the characterization of the famous protagonists of her series’, Psychic Abigail Cooper and M.J. Holiday who fight the demons and the bad guys of the paranormal world. Her description of the plots is quite interesting being written in a humorous way along with the mysterious and thrilling situations. She also penned down the character of Maddie Fynn, who is a teenager having the unique ability of predicting the exact date of a person’s death. Victoria specializes in writing novels set in the paranormal worlds. She has also proven her expertise in writing children’s adventures through The Oracles of Delphi Keep series.
Victoria began writing Abby Cooper novels since 2003 and wanted to portray Abby Cooper as an intuitive but a normal person. Even after publishing her first few successful novels and establishing herself as a noted author, Victoria had no plans of becoming a professional writer. She had planned to write a few novels in the Psychic Eye series and then move on to develop some other hobby. However, it was at the time of her third book that she realized the joy of narrating a story. She feels most satisfied while writing the last twenty pages of her novels after taking the characters on a roller coaster ride. Her joy knows no bounds when she feels that she got everything right in a novel. Victoria has decided to keep her writing habit intact even though a lot of ideas keep churning in her mind that force her mind to think of taking up other activities. She considers writing to be a fabulous work if the things turn up as expected. As of now, Victoria lives in the United States and divides her time between the Ghost Hunter series and the Psychic Eye series.. She also saves some time for her Young Adult thrillers.
The Psychic Eye series written by Victoria Laurie comprises of twelve fantasy novels. The collection of novels of the series revolves around the main protagonist Abby Cooper. Abby appears in the series along with three other important characters, including her boyfriend, Dutch, sister Cat and her business partner, Candice. The series was published from 2004 to 2014. Another novel of the series is about to be published in the early 2015. The series describes Abby Cooper as a professional psychic intuitive. She has figured everyone better than managing her own life. She understands that she cannot sidestep mayhem and murder, being a psychic. Rather, it lets her feel about when it is going to come. Abby gets a plenty of help from her business partner and best friend Candice Fuso. Candice is a badass psychic intuitive and always comes to the aid of Abby Cooper along with the handsome Dutch Rivers, the love of Abby’s life. They together help Abby to catch the bad guys often dodging several attacks. Abby is grateful to have such friends who come to her aid whenever she finds herself in trouble.
The first novel of the Psychic Eye series was published in the year 2004 by Signet publishers, under the title ‘Abby Cooper: Psychic Eye’. In this novel, Abby Cooper introduced as a professional intuitive who is involved in a murder investigation of one of her clients. She lives in Royal Oak, a suburb of Detroit and is around thirty years old. Her psychic nature causes the police department to suspect her and raises their curiosity as to how can she know much about a murder for which she is not responsible. She realizes that he intuitive nature often lands her life in jeopardy. The novel also reveals the plot of the romantic relationship between Abby Cooper and Dutch Rivers, who meets her through a dating service. Dutch Rivers also turns out to be the main investigation the murder case. He begins to question the abilities of Abby as complications arise between the two and she is forced to defend herself rather than being termed as a fraud. She had been enjoying a pretty satisfying life previously, like a vanilla ice-cream, being a psychic intuitive. After being questioned for the murder of her client, Abby gets to face the bitter aspect of her powers. Although she has become depressed after being labelled as a fraud by her lover and thinking that she will not be able to clear her name from the murder, the killer is pretty sure that she would be able to do so.
The sequel to the first novel was titled ‘Better Read than Dead’. This novel was published in the year 2005 by Signet publishers. The plot of the novel shows the abilities of Abby Cooper to be in great demand once again. But this time she not only tries to find the criminal, but also helps one unknowingly. The life of Abby is falling into pieces during the autumn in Detroit. She was planning to settle down with FBI agent Dutch Rivers on her newly renovated house. But her all her plans take a different turn when she receives a phone call from a crime lord. When the news of Abby’s intuitive abilities reaches the ears of the crime lord, he tries to hire her for some business help. He does not like to hear a no for a reply. She also helps the police to find a masked man who has been killing women. Abby is unaware of her stint of working for both the criminal and the police. She does not get time with Dutch as he is busy on some other case. This makes Abby to be on her own in this case and it is later that she realizes the true nature of the happenings. She wonders why was she not able to see this coming? The series had a successful run as the readers enjoyed reading the novels all over the world. Victoria Laurie received the necessary motivation to continue writing more novels and prolong her career as an established writer of mystery and thriller genres.
