About Wayne Kyle Spitzer

An American writer of horror and fantasy novels, the author Wayne Kyle Spitzer is extremely well regarded thanks to his unique take on the genre. Knowing how to expertly craft a highly unique turn of phrase, his ability in building suspense with an atmosphere of fear is unparalleled. He also manages to really get to the bottom of his subject matter, using his stories to convey a message with a deeper meaning that resonates with the truth within the human psyche. Bringing his characters to the forefront as well, he really allows his stories to gain a grounded sense of realism too, something which has attracted readers from all across the world. Not only that, but he has also managed to gain a large amount of experience working as a screenwriter too, having adapted many works for the big-screen as well.

Early and Personal Life

Born in 1966 on the 15th of July, Wayne Kyle Spitzer would grow up in the area of Spokane, Washington, in the United States. Focusing on horror for much of his life, he has also managed to gain a background not only writing it, but directing it for the big-screen too. This would allow him to imbue his work with an extremely visceral and visual style, allowing his work to essentially leap off of the page for the reader.

Teaching creative writing, he would also go on to tutor at Corbin Art Center, along with working at the Airway Heights Corrections Center too. This would be done alongside his own writing, giving him a greater insight into his own craft and writing process, something which he’d continue after graduating from Eastern Washington University, where he’d gain a Master of Fine Arts degree for Writing. Over time he has continued to progress and evolve as a writer, which, along with his degree in Television Production as well, he continues to write and grow to this very day.

Writing Career

Starting out all the way back in 1987, Wayne Kyle Spitzer would later make his big debut onto the literary scene with his first full novel ‘Flashback’ in 1993. This would then see him well on his way to becoming a far more prominent figure within and throughout the entire industry as a whole. Creating a number of series too, he would also make his name and raise his profile with franchises such as ‘Flashback Dawn’ and ‘The Ferryman Pentalogy’.

In time he would also become a highly regarded director and screenwriter of low-budget horror, crafting his stories, and the stories of others, for the silver screen. This would then transform over time, as he would become more confident and adept behind the camera, creating both short and long horror films. He has also previously written a number of non-fiction pieces too, writing for a whole variety of different publications, something which he will continue for quite some time to come.

Flashback Dawn: The Complete Series

Working as a compendium omnibus edition of the entire prequel series of the original sequel serials to Flashback, this collects all of the stories for the very first time. Initially coming out in 2018 on the 8th of March, this would first be released through the ‘Hobb’s End Books’ publishing label to much acclaim. Bringing the whole series together, it would manage to really showcase Spitzer’s talents as a writer of gripping and entertaining horror.

Combining science-fiction with horror, this makes the use of a number of different genres, bringing them all together into one thrilling story. Exapanding upon the original story of ‘Flashback’, this is a collection that really does make full use of the world, taking full advantage of it. The characters are also well drawn too, allowing them to essentially draw the reader in, relating them to ongoing action throughout. This then gives it a very real grounded quality, despite the otherworldly nature of everything that goes on for the duration of the story as a whole.

Starting out with Naaygi, it sees her dealing with a new breed of carnosaur, as a new terror potentially awaits the planet. Dubbed the ‘Pygmy Tyrants’ they even have a leader now as well, with it being called ‘Napoleon’, as they aim to wreak true and utter terror. This offshoot of the dinosaur population would bring to light some new dark forces to humanity, along with newly ‘evolved’ humans as well. The only thing left for Naaygi to do amid the carnage was attempt to kneel before them, whilst taking charge of the situation and their entire species. How will she manage to really end this terror though? Can she manage to stop it? What will really become of the Flashback dawn?

The Pierced Veil

Marking the third title in the ongoing series of books titled ‘The Ferryman Pentalogy’ series, this really manages to craft a sense of terror and dread. Not only that but it also manages to create a feeling of mystery, luring the reader in with its seductive style of prose that lingers on the page. Released initially through the ‘Hobb’s End Books’ publishing outlet, this would first come out in 2017 on the 15th of August to much acclaim. It would also combine a number of different genres once again, whilst allowing Spitzer to really come alive as a writer and show what he’s actually made of.

With a sense of mystery and love, with a tinge of romance, this brings the rich and evocative world of the previous novels to the forefront once more. Featuring the story of one Ferryman, it tells of another world, one that’s just a little out of reach, with all the characters yearning for something. With an air of imposing magic, it really casts a world immersed in shadows, allowing it to surround the reader, filling all the senses at once seemingly. This has proved to be a highly successful franchise to, comprising some of Spitzer’s best work to date, building a large assortment of fans from around the world. Will everyone truly find what they’re searching for? Who is really behind it all? What is actually lurking behind the pierced veil?
