Shigidi and the Brass Head of Obalufon is the debut fictional novel from author Wole Talabi. This is a fantasy novel that you will definitely want to check out if you love unique fantasy or are always excited to check out a fresh new voice in literature.

This is a mythical story of gods, revenge, and a heist done over two different worlds. Shigidi is a nightmare god who is upset and not motivated at all. He’s part of the Orisha spirit company, going out of his way to answer prayers for the believers that remain faithful in him so that he can keep his existence going for enough time for him to track down his next drink.

Then Shigidi encounters Nneoma, a succubus of types with a past that is as long as it is full of secrets. It ends up being a transformative event and everything in his life shifts and changes after that. They work together to try and get away from his obligations as well as the restriction that have tied him to being a god.

They also try to work the parameters of their freshly forged relationship while working with how her past is influencing things. However, there are also hierarchies when it comes to the Orisha spirit company. The elder gods have outside plans for Shigidi, and not all of them are lined up or positive.

From Lagos and the noisy streets to the bars on top of roofs in Singapore to the secret spaces that London has to offer, Nneoma and Shigidi are going to meet acquaintances from the past, some rival gods, odd creatures, and magicians with plenty of manipulative qualities as they are slowly pulled into a complex world that involves everything from spirit business to revenge to a heist that takes place over two different worlds.

In the process, Shigidi may find his entire understanding of who he is forever altered and that it is within his power to set the ultimate fate for the Orisha spirit company once and for all. What will he do? Read this engaging debut novel from Wole Talabi to find out!
