Yung Pueblo
Diego Perez was originally born in Guayaquil, Ecuador. He is a writer, speaker, and meditator that is widely known on Instagram as well as various other social media networks through his Yung Pueblo pen name. His words are deceptively simple yet deeply impactful.

This pen name means “young people”, and it serves to remind him of his Ecuadorian roots, that the collective of humanity is in the middle of some important growth, and his experiences in activism. Pueblo is also a word that is used in Guayaquil in reference to the masses of people that are economically impoverished.

He immigrated to the United States during his childhood. He grew up in Boston and later attended Wesleyan University.

It also reminds him that humanity, as a whole, is incredibly young, we have a whole lot of growing up to do, and all of us are collectively still learning how to be kind to each other, how to share, how to clean up after ourselves, and how not to fight each other. These are things that he is hoping we are going to be doing well in the next century.

Liberation, which is his favorite word, took a much deeper meaning for him once he began meditating Vipassana, through speaking and writing, he aims to support the healing of the individual, realizing that once we release our personal burdens, we can contribute to a global peace.

When he was fifteen years old, he began organizing and being a part of the activist world. He was another young person a part of this organization known as Boston Youth Organizing Project, and they learned how powerful they are when they came around a certain cause. They were just a group of young people that changed laws in their city, their schools, and making big change in their material reality.

And ever since, he has been obsessed with the idea of liberation. He has wanted to know what it meant, how to maintain it, and how to attain it.

Diego has worked with a few different groups over the years, from radical organizing to nonprofit organizing, and often they have been successful. However something was still missing, as greed continued driving global harm and internally, Diego found he was still rife with misery, making him keep on searching.

He was 24 years old the first time he did his first ten day long Vipassana meditation course which shook the very foundation of everything he believed in. His experience meditating showed to him that liberation needs to be realized internally to a certain extent before any of us are able to recreate the world into such a place where all of us are able to live materially well without harming each other to do it. It made him realized that everybody needs to be liberated, the oppressors and oppressed alike.

He continued to organize and meditating simultaneously, and then one day his intuition told him clearly to share what he understood in writing, that even though he understands might change over time he had to share it now. This would allow people to know that it is possible to come out of their misery and heal themselves deeply, because it is the transformation of the individual that holds all the secrets to transforming the world into something much better.

One idea that really drives his inspiration, is the possibility of total freedom from misery as an individual. Another idea that pushes his inspiration is humanity coming together to recreate the world into the loving and beautiful place which it can be.

Pueblo’s debut poetry collection, called “Inward”, was released in the year 2017.

“Clarity and Connection” is a poetry collection which was released in the year 2021. From the celebrated writer of “Inward” comes a brand new collection of short prose and poetry that illuminates just how wounds from the past will impact our relationships in the present.

In “Clarity and Connection”, he explores how the more intense emotions accumulate in our subconscious and will condition us to act and react the ways that we do. With his distinctive voice, at once evocative and spare, the author leads us through the excavation and release of the past which is required for growth.

This is another cathartic and beautifully written book from Yung Pueblo, and he provides plenty of wisdom and suggestions on living authentically.
