Zoe Sharp is one of the bestselling authors of thriller novels hailing from The United Kingdom. She mainly writes the crime thriller series of novels featuring the lead character in the form of Charlie Fox. Before going on to become an author, Zoe used to work as a photographer and freelance writer for motoring magazines. Her wide range of works made her travel numerous places, including the United States, Europe, and Japan. As of today, she resides in the Lake District. Other than writing crime thriller novels, author Zoe likes to enjoy sailing very much, as well as fast cars, faster bikes, and reading a wide range of books in her free time. It is believed that she has taken to writing from her teenage years, but was able to publish her debut novel in the year 2001. The novel was titled as Killer Instinct and opened to a huge success all over the world. The popular and successful writing career of author Zoe allowed her to be shortlisted for the prestigious Short Story Dagger. She has also been nominated for the Macavitty, Benjamin Franklin, and Edgar awards.
Zoe spent most of her growing years on the England’s northwest coast after having been born in Nottinghamshire. She had a promising start to her academic studies in a private school for girls. But, Zoe decided to opt out of the mainstream education and join the correspondence courses at the age of 12. During her teenage years, author Zoe worked in various jobs. By the end of the year 1988, she already had one of her articles accepted for publication. This, along with her fascination towards cars forced her to give up the regular paying job and take up freelance writing for motors. Later, she took to photography and both her profession allowed her to travel to Japan, United States, Ireland, UK, and Europe. Now, she only writes crime fiction novels on a full time basis. With the publication of the novel, Killer Instinct, author Zoe was able to achieve success for the first time. This novel was also the first one to feature the heroine of her thriller series, named Charlie Fox in the form of an ex-Special Forces Officer. Zoe says that she was able to develop the character of Charlie Fox after receiving several death threats during her photo-journalism career.
The Charlie Fox Thriller series written by author Zoe Sharp consists of a total of 10 novels and 1 novella. All the novels of the series feature the main heroine in the form of Charlie Fox, who is described by the author as the female version of the famous character named Jack Reacher developed by Lee Child. The initial novel of this series was titled as, ‘Killer Instinct’. It was released by the Piatkus Books publishing house in 2001. The story of this novel is set in Lancaster, North England, United Kingdom, and depicts the central characters in the form of Charlie Fox, Pauline Jamieson, Clare Elliot, Detective Superintendent MacMillan, Sam Pickering, and Marc Quinn. In the opening sequence of the plot of the novel, it is shown that Charlie Fox teaches self defense to women in a quiet city located in the northern England and earns her living. She thinks of it as making the best use of her deadly skills that she acquired after getting exiled from the Special Forces training in the army because of reasons known only to her.
Susan Hollins, who used to work as a karaoke singer is found dead near the New Adelphi Club after a few hours of getting into a fight with Charlie. After coming to know about Susie’s death, Charlie understood that she will be chased by the police. However, she is told by the police that Susie had become the recent victim of a deadly homicidal, rapist who was stalking in the local area for the past few months. After a little, the owner of the New Adelphi Club named Marc Quinn offers Charlie Fox a job as the security in charge of his club. Feeling as an outsider in the all-male security team of the club made Charlie uncomfortable and suspect that there was definitely a link between the homicidal rapist and the club. She used to teach all her students in the self defense classes that it will be a better option to run that standing and fighting. However, it seemed that she herself did not have that option against the serial killer, who was taking a personal interest in her.
The next novel of the Charlie Fox Thriller series written by author Zoe Sharp was released under the title ‘Riot Act’. It was published by the Piatkus Books publishing house in 2002. This novel’s story is also set in The United Kingdom and continues to revolve around the happenings in the life of Charlie Fox, along with several others, such as Jacob, Sean Meyer, Harvey Langford, Nasir Gadatra, Clare Elliott, MacMillan, Ursula Meyer, Richard Foxcroft, etc. In the opening sequence of the plot of the novel, it is shown that Charlie Fox gets threatened by Garton-Jones, who says to her that he is a violent man and will whatever he likes to control the estate. Being a self defense expert and having a daring attitude, she need not go anywhere for getting into trouble. Rather, troubles would generally find her. She is asked by one of her friends to do house-sitting, which appears to be an easy task for her at first.
But, Charlie does not realize that the house that her friend was talking about is located in the estate of Lavender Gardens, where riots often takes place among the local teenage gangs. Due to this, the desperate neighbors of Charlie Fox are forced to hire a ruthless and explosive security firm for applying rough justice in a place where the legal ones seem to have failed. Soon, the situation becomes even uglier when when one of the young Asian boys gets wounded fatally in a racial shooting motivated by two different gangs. Charlie Fox feels caught in the middle of the deadly battlefield in the estate of her friend’s house, where she had gone to house-sit. In spite of all the troubles and difficulties, it appears that she will be able to protect herself from all kinds of dangers. However, when she is made to come face to face with one of the specters from her past life in the army service, she begins to feel the tension. In the end, everything lies on the shoulders of Charlie as she is required to work out and find who are the people whom she can really trust in such difficult times.
