Shifters Unbound: Pride Mates
This is the first book in Jennifer Ashley’s Shifters series. In these books, the Shifters are outcasts among humanity, with collars and controlled. The Shifters are feared by the human race, so they are forced to segregate from the population and live in Shiftertowns, but they are passionate people that cannot be kept down by the collars, which they are forced to wear and shock the Shifters if they get aggressive, even though they are no more aggressive than the humans. Shifters are not allowed the latest technology.
This Shiftertown is based in the Austin area, and alpha Shifter there Liam Morissey has learned that trusting in humans never really works out. Then the human girlfriend of a shifter is murdered and the police and prosecutors jump to the conclusion that her Shifter boyfriend did it. So when the beautiful and smart attorney Kim Fraser comes into Shiftertown to help prove her client Brian Smith’s innocence and comes alone, Liam offers up his protection. Brian is the first Shifter Kim Fraser has ever met, but their existence has been well known in the public eye for going on two decades. She used to assume they were supernatural creatures that really and truly needed the collars to keep them from being randomly aggressive, but she believes that Brian is innocent of this atrocious crime and so she is off to the middle of the Shiftertown to get the help of the Morrissey family, which includes the father Dylan as well as the brothers Liam and Sean. This supernatural story is heart felt and sensitive as well as sensual and includes a burgeoning romance between the Detective and one of the supernatural people she is coming to get to know better and better.
The District Attorney is immersed and knows much about the culture of the Shifters and that is why she has been assigned to the case. She also gets to know Liam, who is not only very sexy but the dominant and alpha male Shifter. He protects her and she in turn begins seeing the real sides of Shifters as well as the secrets that they conceal from the humans so that they can protect themselves. Together, Kim and Liam work against the murder charge and try to find out why certain people are so eager for the boyfriend of the murdered girl to be found guilty for the crime. As they work together, Liam and Kim start to develop a mutual attraction and their chemistry starts to go off the charts! Kim is fighting the relationship in the beginning, but as time goes on and she starts to spend more time with Liam, she slowly stops fighting the attraction.
Liam asks Kim why he should help Brian? Kim says that she thinks Brian is innocent because the collar prevents aggression. She says that the legal team have not played the way they should and that Brian has given up hope, but Kim has not. Liam questions whether he should get involved because he is attracted to Kim. He has to intervene when a random Shifter without a collar threatens Kim’s life. Will she be able to prove the innocence of her client? And what does the future hold for Kim and Liam? Time will tell.
Shifters Unbound: Primal Bonds
A female Shifter comes to the Shifter town looking for refuge, and Sean Morissey, a Feline Shifter as well as a Guardian who is chosen to have a magical sword that sends dead Shifters’ souls to the afterlife, claims her. He finds that there is a beautiful woman underneath the Shift, looking him in the eye without being afraid of him. It’s driving him crazy with mating frenzy. Andrea Gray must accept a new mate in order to relocate to a new town, but the half-Fae and half-Shifter hasn’t exactly had an easy road. And now her attraction to the Feline Shifter is a wrench in a plan she never expected to see. Andrea has had a complicated past, and the Shifter’s interest in her isn’t helping.
Ashley delivers yet another imaginative and sexually charged story here, where the magical collar-wearing shape shifters and humans still have a ways to go if they’re going to live peacefully and in harmony. Andrea has been fleeing her old town with a forced mate claim already as well as issues of abuse, and the mate claim she finds in Sean Morrissey is for the purposes of name only. But as Sean protects the sassy and smart Lupine shifter, he doesn’t expect to fall head over heels for her as quickly as he does. Andrea is strong and sexy and powerful, and she refuses to hide when humans start shooting up places Shifters are known to hang around in acts of prejudice. Sean does his best to protect Andrea but lets her stand on her own. Will he be able to protect Andrea forever? And will Andrea love him back the same way?
