John Connolly is an Irish author born in Dublin, Ireland. He was born in 1968 on May 31. He mainly writes short stories and novels. John Connolly’s genres of books include crime fiction, horror fiction, science fiction, drama, and fantasy. The Bachelors of Arts graduate from Trinity College in Dublin is a full time novelist.

John Connolly’s education and career

John Connolly once worked as a journalist with the Irish times newspaper where he was a freelance journalist. The author also worked as a barman, a waiter, a Harrods department store gofer in London and a local government official. During his time in these professions, he did not find the satisfaction that he was looking for.

He pursued a Bachelors of Arts in English in Trinity College in Dublin and proceeded to have a Masters in Arts in Journalism from Dublin City University. His education background and life experience positioned him in the direction of telling stories through novels in the various selected genres.

The Dublin based writer has an expended audience across Europe and in the United States of America where he frequents and spends some of his time. John Connolly still contributes to the Irish Times Newspaper through his articles and he does interviews with other authors who are established.

John Connolly Career as a writer

His profession as a journalist positioned him to be a mystery and thriller author. He also writes literature and fiction books. John Connolly’s first book was Every Dead Thing which he began writing when he was still a freelance journalist. The book was published in 1999. He has never looked back since then. He has written more books as the Parker Series. The popular parker series are one of the thrillers that the author has enticed the world with and has catapulted his career as a novelist.

Other than the Parker series, John Connolly has non-Parker thrillers. He has also written books that are outside the crime genre. His work anthology of ghost stories marked a new dawn for the author in new publications. The book was a new taste from the experienced novelist. It is a story of a young boy coming of age through fantasy during the Second World War in England.

There are a number of films and television adaptations of his work that are in progress. His short story, Nocturnes had a film adaptation called The New daughter. The film stared Kevin Costner and Ivana Baquero and was well received by the audience.

He has many awards to his name. John Connolly won the Agatha awards of 2012. He also won the Anthony Awards in 2013. Other Notable awards that he has won include Edgar in 2014 and Shamus Award in 2000.

John Connolly began penning his first book titled Every Dead Thing that is the first book of the parker Series some years before 1999. He got his first nomination, Bram Stoker Award, in 1999 following the publication of the book. He has since had fourteen nominations for various awards winning five awards.

After Every Dead Thing, the parker series had 12 more books ending with the book the Wolf in the Winter Published in 2014. There may be more work coming on the series. John Connolly also has Samuel Jonson series with three books and the Chronicles of the Invaders Series that still has one book titled the Conquest that was published in 2013. The author has a number of short stories and novels to his name.

Among his books, the book Nocturnes has a film adaptation called The New Daughter that was shot in 2009. The book also has a short film adaptation that is still in production called Some Children Wander By Mistake. Other books such as The book of Lost Things have a film under development that is directed by John Moore. A film, the Sanctuary is also under development and is based on John Connolly’s novel Bad Men.

Every Dead Thing

This is John Connolly’s first book. It is not his first writing because as a journalist, writing articles was part his trade but it marks the beginning of a long story in the form of the Parker series. The story is about a New York Police Department (NYPD) detective called Charlie Bird Parker. Detective Parker is tormented by the unresolved murders that were not only brutal but were the murders of his wife and young daughter.

Detective Parker has a special ally in the quest for justice for his loved ones. His ally is the vision of the dead. Through these abilities, parker tracks down a serial killer from New York City all the way to the American South. He finds his buried instincts. Parker finds himself in a fierce confrontation with a monster that he never imagined. The story is a fiction thriller. The author blends the imaginary world of fantasy with the real world in a way that the reader gets a journey of what it would be like in the world of fantasy.

The book of lost Things

The book of Lost Things is one of John Connolly’s novels. It is about a twelve-year-old boy called David. David mourns the death of his mother high in the attic of his bedroom. The only company David has is the books in his shelve. The books start to whisper to David in the darkness. Out of the isolation and anger, David finds comfort in fantasy to the extent that reality and fantasy blend.

His mother’s death marks the beginning of collapse of his family. In his fantasy, he falls into a world that is comparable to his real life that is full of anger and isolation. In his world of fantasy, there are monsters and heroes. This world is ruled by a faded king who has all his secreted in a book that is mysterious. The book is called the Book of Lost Things. In the book, the author walks with the reader through a journey that involves the loss of innocence of a boy. The boy grows into adulthood through the circumstances that befell his life.
