Kendra Elliot is an American author best known for writing thrilling and romantic suspense novels. She is the author of book series such as the Bone Secrets series, the Callahan & McLane series, the Mercy Kilpatrick series, and the Widow’s Island series.

Elliot was born in the Pacific Northwest and had a love of reading from a young age. She enjoyed reading the books of Laura Ingalls, Nancy Drew, and Trixie Belden and a book was always close to her hand. She never saw herself writing as it didn’t bring her much joy and she always did the minimum for writing assignments in school.

She went on to attend the University of Oregon for college. She ended up earning her bachelor’s degree in journalism. However, she would decide not to pursue that career and went on to study dentistry. She earned her dental hygiene license and went to work in that field. She would practice for sixteen years, but never lost the desire to write.

Her inspiration to write came after reading one of Diana Gabaldon’s novels that inspired her. She just felt so satisfied and content with the ending of the book and felt that it was just a great piece of storytelling. She began to wonder if she could write something like that so she sat down and began writing. She had set out to write a romance, but the story kept taking her to other places with dead bodies and such. She realized that romantic suspense was a better genre for her.

To learn more about the novel writing world, Elliot joined her local Romance Writers of America chapter. She was able to meet a great community of people who were willing to help her improve her craft and tackle the tricks of the publishing world. Kendra would also join the International Thriller Writers and the Kiss of Death Chapter of RWA.

Her first book to be published was Hidden, in the summer of 2012. The book would sell well and she was on her way. Kendra would go on to win the Daphne du Maurier award for romantic suspense in 2014, 2015, and 2016. She’s also come close to two other big awards as she has been a finalist for Romantic Times Magazine’s best Romantic Suspense and has been a finalist for an International Thriller Writers’s award.

Elliot sets out to write two books per year. She still makes her home in Oregon where she lives with her family.

Hidden was the first novel published by Elliot and the first book in the Bone Secrets series. The story picks up eleven years after the Co-ed Slayer murdered nine female students at Oregon State University. Lacey Campbell was able to survive the attack and is the lone surviving victim of the killer. Her testimony was key in sending the killer to prison.

Now, bones and teeth have been discovered and they belong to her former best friend. The bones are found on the land of an ex-cop named Jack Harper. Lacey and Jack begin to grow close together, but there is someone out there killing off the witnesses who testified against the killer. The evidence points to the killings being done by the Co-ed Killer, but he died long ago. Lacey and Jack hope to find out, if they can manage to stay alive long enough to do so.

The Callahan & McLane series begins with Vanished. The story begins with an eleven-year-old girl being abducted on her way to school. The FBI is quick on the case and sends Special Agent Ava McLane to the girl’s family. The local authorities are also on the case with a local detective, Mason Callahan, doing what he can. Mason has had a rough go of late, losing an informant to murder and he has a relation to the victim.

Mason and Agent McLane end up holed up together at the family’s home. The two are doing what they can for the case and trying to help this family keep it together. Somehow, in the middle of it all, they are also finding themselves drawn closer together.

The Last Sister is the first book in the Columbia River trilogy by Kendra Elliot. The story picks up twenty years after Emily Mills’ father was murdered. The tragedy had a tremendous affect on the family as it drove their mother to suicide and caused his daughter Tara to leave and never come back.

Emily and her sister Madison have tried to forget what happened that night, but when an oddly similar murder is committed – they are drawn into it. The case brings FBI special agent Zander Wells to town to investigate. He is eager to solve the case and find out more about the girl’s father’s killing.

When more blood is shed, he begins to suspect that this small town is hiding something and people will kill to keep it that way. Is it something that Emily and Madison know about? Or is it something they are also trying to hide?

Elliot is perhaps best known for the Mercy Kilpatrick series of books. The first book in the series is called A Merciful Death. The story introduces us to Mercy, an FBI special agent, who has been waiting her whole life for disaster to strike. She grew up living off the land and has been a prepper ever since. She lived like that in Oregon for a long time until a shocking tragedy tore her family apart and caused her to leave home.

Now there is a predator known as the caveman targeting survivalists back in her home town. She is brought into investigate and the crime scenes are eerily reminiscent of Mercy’s own past.

Mercy works hard to hide her prepper past, especially from the local police chief Truman Daly. He can see it though and the two begin to grow close together, but she is worried about letting him get to close as he might learn the secret that she has long hidden about herself.
