Laura Griffin started her writing career in journalism where as a reporter she developed a keen eye for news. She grew up in the Texas Gulf Coast. Therefore, the accents, images, and attitudes of the Texas Gulf Coast come naturally to her giving her works the advantage of authenticity. In fact, most of the settings in her works are places that she is familiar with and she has visited.

In her works, she would always imagine characters and a plot based on her coverage of the news during her journalism career. She was fascinated by the people behind the various events such as kidnapping, fire, and theft. She was motivated to discover the motivation behind actions of crime, the behaviour of criminals, and the justification they give for their actions. It is for this reason that her works are full of suspense as well as action. She is one of the most revered authors in romantic suspense. Currently, she is living in Austin where she is working on her next book.

Style

Her books are characterized by great heroes, great heroines, mystery, and a satisfying ending. While most readers prefer reading her books in order, a reader does not have to do so. Rather, each book has its own mystery plot with a focus on different characters. In other words, a reader can dive right into the middle of the series or start from the latest book going to the first release. Whichever the case, one will not lose the meaning and experience of the book.
The Tracers feature prominently in her works. These are forensic experts who have the training and experience in high-tech lab. They are only assigned to the tough and complicated cases which are beyond the convectional law enforcement agencies. Laura Griffin says that she does a lot of research before writing any novel. She attributes this to the many people she has met who contain information that can be the basis of a story. She follows that through interviews. She recognizes that writing short pieces of work do not in any way mean that it is easier. Rather, it can be demanding to create such a mystery plot and develop solid characters.

Untraceable

Untraceable is a book by Laura Griffin that was released on November 24, 2009. Private investigator Alexandra Lovell (Alex) is dedicated and absorbed with the convectional day to day duties of a private investigator. These include going after healthy people who cheat the insurance companies about their health in order to get compensation, tracing missing parents who are not paying child support, and helping identify cheating couples. She is well conversant with computer skills. Consequently, she uses this as an asset to help victims of abusive relationships escape their plight. In particular, she helps people to start new and changed lives in safety away from the threats they face every single day of their lives.
One of the beneficiaries of Alex’s initiatives is Melanie Bess. In a twist, Bess disappearance prompts Alex to mobilize all the resources available including forensic technology to trace her. Alex uses one clue at a time in order to help uncover the truth. He realizes that the initial assessment of the investigation was far much narrower than required. As a response, she uses the Tracers-an elite team of forensic experts, in order to sustain the investigation.

The book is characterized by the police procedures and suspense in the search for Bess. Alex even wonders if the case will even be admissible in the court in the first place. Odd as at may sound, Alex is at risk of facing physical threat and disappearance. This is because the search of the whereabouts of Laura Griffin is compounded by the fact that Bess husband is a cop and may as well seek his revenge to avoid exposure.

Unspeakable

The book Unspeakable was released on June 19, 2010. Elaina MacCord- an FBI profiler- is under threat due to the first case she handled. This involved investigation of a string string of scaring murders that occurred around a Texas beach resort. The victims were first of all drugged, then murdered, and eventually dumped in the marshland. Elaina concludes that the serial killer has perfected the art of killing with a long time of experience. Notably, the serial killer does his job with ease. In particular, he disposes the cut bodies brilliantly without leaving traces.

In her investigation, she faces a number of challenges from her male colleagues who are looking down on her and who seem to doubt her expertise. They ignore her numerous suggestions, seduce her, and in some cases use inappropriate language during any conversation with them. This becomes a major obstacle in her search for justice. However, her greatest challenge comes from breaking the news to the families of the victims that the dead body of their daughter was found. Furthermore, explaining to the families of the victims that the killer is not known was no easy task.

In a twist of fate, the serial killer starts threatening Elaina. Out of desperation, Elaina is forced by circumstances to seek the help of true-crime writer Troy Stockton, a person that she would hitherto not trust. She further relies on the elite and experienced team of forensic experts known as the Tracers. Elaina’s career as well as her life becomes threatened as the case turns out to be personal, aggressive, and overly nasty.

Surprisingly, Troy turns out to be the source of hope, inspiration, and encouragement to Elaina to an extent that it almost crossed the line to Elaina’s professionalism. They laugh and face hard times together and help each other throughput the tough time of investigation of the murders.

Movies and Awards

Laura Griffin has won numerous awards due to her outstanding contribution to literature. She was the two times winner of the 2010 RITA award for the book Whisper of Warning. In addition to that, she was the recipient of the Daphne du Maurier Award for the book Untraceable.

So far, there are no movies based on the works of Laura Griffin. However, turning some of her works into movies is being considered. For example, the book Far Gone will be turned into a movie/tv show. Similarly, Laura Griffin in her Facebook page asked her fans what they thought of Tom Cruise as Jack Reacher.

Conclusion

Laura Griffin is an outstanding author in the realm of crime and romance. The element of suspense features prominently in her works more so in cases where the murder investigation comes to fruition and there is execution of justice. Her work will make the heart skip and one book lays the foundation for another. The vivid details of the characters and setting makes the book undoubtedly memorable. Overall, Laura’s books are unputdownable.
