All the books of this series feature the lead characters as Master Sergeant Reed Beckham and Dr. Kate Lavato. Several other important characters get added in the plots as the series progresses. Beckham and Lavato lead a team of brave men and medical specialists to fight against the men, who have been turned into monsters because of the deadly Ebola virus. They look to capture one of the monsters so that they can study the extent of the Ebola effect and develop a possible cure. If the team of Lavato and Beckham fail in their mission, then the whole of the human race could face the danger of extinction. It appears that the virus is spreading very rapidly and many men are getting converted into monsters Initially, Reed Beckham is introduced as the Master Sergeant, who leads a team of Delta Force that has the Codename of Ghost. Dr. Kate Lavato is shown as a virologist and a biological expert, who is capable of finding a cure for the deadly Ebola virus. It is the mission of Reed Beckham and his Team Ghost to keep Lavato alive until she succeeds in stopping the virus from spreading to the rest of the city. A successful book of this series is entitled ‘Extinction Edge’. It was released in the year 2015. Author Nicholas has set the story on Plum Island and has described the central characters as Kate Lavato and Reed Beckham once again. In this story, they are shown as fighting against another major problem that could lead to the extinction of humans. At the start of the story, it is shown that the dust from the bio-weapon of Dr. Lavato has settled. The count of the dead people is estimated to be in the billions.

Lavato’s weapon was supposed to end the game for the Hemorrhage Virus, but instead it changed some of the infected men in something worse. The ones who survived tend to call the transformed ones as Variants. Because of the irreversible genetic changes, the Variants have been transformed into the kind of predators, that the humans have never seen before. To make the problem ever worse, it is learned that the Variants are evolving. As the time is running out, a military plan is laid out under Operation Liberty. This desperate mission is designed to save the cities and reduce all the threats from the Variants to zero level. When Master Sergeant Beckham is asked to lead the mission and take a striking team to the New York City, he agrees. However, first he decides to travel to Fort Bragg to look for his family. At the Plum Island, Kate Lavato discovers that the Central Command might have underestimated the population of the Variants in New York considerably. And when she learns that the Operation Liberty is drawing closer, he tries to warn Beckham and the Team Ghost about what she has discovered. She tries to tell them that the small military force is not going to be enough to fight the deadly adversary, and if decided to proceed with the mission, they might head into a huge trap set up by the Variants. Lavato asks for a more planned approach and attack with more strength so that the Variants can be finished once and for all.

Another exciting book of the series is called ‘Extinction Age’. This book was also released in 2015. At the beginning of this novel, it is depicted that Operation Liberty has turned into a failure, resulting in a great loss for the humans. As there seems no other option left, General Kennor takes the decision of pulling back his troops and giving a second chance to science. He expects that the medical experts would come up with a solution as soon as possible that would help them stop the increasing Variant population. Reed Beckham is trapped in the sewer system of New York along with a few survivors of the First Platoon. While trying to find a way out of the tunnels, they make a shocking discovery. On the other hand, Dr. Lavato is trying to develop a new biological weapon under the orders of General Kennor for destroying the Variants. Later, it is learned that a Navy Destroyer has crashed into the shoreline of Connecticut and due to this, Lavato is required to deal with another nightmare, which she was thinking has ended long ago. Again, the time is running out and General Kennor has ordered all the military bases of the country to remain standing by in readiness so as to face all types of possibilities. With the danger growing with each passing day, it is thought that the human race has entered the extinction age. Everything is now in the hands of Lavato and Reed Beckham. They can only do a miracle that could save the humankind from getting extinct. And as the story approaches its climax, author Nicholas poses a question for the readers making them guess whether the humans will vanish off from the planet? And as the readers become intrigued with this question they move further and continue reading until they find out that science prevails and becomes successful in defeating the Variants. The book was well appreciated by one and all, which helped it to become highly successful.
