Thea Stilton is the pseudonym for Italian author Elisabetta Dami that also writes as Geronimo Stilton. Currently residing in Italy, Thea enjoys traveling the world to find inspiration for her series of novels. Her travels have seen her travel to a wide range of exotic places that include travels to Zambia, Easter Island in Egypt, a trek in Nepal, and a climb up Mt. Kilimanjaro. Her enthusiasm for adventure and travel has also seen her run two New York City marathons, and a 75-mile marathon in the Sahara. Her most famous novels are the Geronimo Stilton series that feature Geronimo the mouseling as the lead, while her other titles have the Thea Sisters and Thea Stilton as the lead characters. Stilton was born to the founder of the famous Dami Editore publishing house Peidro Dami in 1972, and thus got a chance to get a start in the literary world as a proofreader at her father’s publishing house. She would start writing children’s stories by the time she was 19, given her strong interest in children cultivated when she worked with sick children as a volunteer. Her experience working with children is what led her down the path of writing her hit Geronimo Stilton series of novels. The character was such a commercial and cultural success in Italy and internationally, that it has enabled Thea fulfill her lifelong dream of helping abandoned, orphaned and sick children. In 1999, Stilton collaborated with Piemme Publishing house to produce the collection of books in her series. Ever since she published her first novel in 1999, she has gone on to sell over 100million copies in 40 languages in over 150 countries.

Published in Italy by Edizioni Piemme in 2000, the novels became an instant hit captivating children with their universal, deep, but simple stories that promote good values. Edizioni had once vowed never to reveal the author identity since young children so loved the series that they believed Thea Stilton was a real character; revealing the identity would spoil the novelty. Thea Stilton is the lead character in the Thea Stilton series of novels and is a special reporter for “The Rodent’s Gazette” and sister to Geronimo Stilton. She went to the Mouseford Academy as a young Mouseling, where she studied journalism before becoming a journalism teacher. She is a gray furred, tall, and slender mouse with a long snout, whose outfit changes from book to book. She maintains the same appearance on TV as in the novels though her outfit is more consistent with a pick V-neck shirt, a black jacket with a white collar and purple eye shadow. Modelled on the life of the author Elizabeth Dami, she loves adventure and travel and goes in many adventures meeting rodents from across the globe unlike her brother Geronimo that is afraid of almost everything and particularly planes. The book design comes with different design of color and font for its words and phrases as well as full color illustrations. The most popular children’s book series in Italy, it has sold more copies than Harry Potter has, with its more than 50 titles selling more than 4 million books in Italy alone.

In addition to its literary success, the Thea Stilton books include cassette audiobooks and a scratch and sniff book that Thea has used in special fund-raising events for children’s charities. The series of novels has had its rights sold in more than 180 countries and translated in more than 40 languages. Such success has made the novels so popular that the appearances of Geronimo and Thea Stilton in Italy are typically mobbed, requiring local police to employ crowd control and safety measures. Live stage projects, music, film, and merchandising have been licensed for the series all over the world. In fact, Scholastic were informed of the immense popularity of the series by Warner Bros, that was thinking of making the novels into a TV series.

According to Thea Stilton, the series has had much success because of its cooperation, sincerity, honesty respect or the world and nature, and heartwarming and positive feelings, which makes it appealing for children across the world. Even as the publishers had once vowed never to reveal the identity of the author of the series, Elisabetta Dami came out to assert that she is the author of the Thea Stilton and Geronimo Stilton books. However, for many children the author of the series will continue to be a mysterious mouseling that goes on fantastic adventures around the world. In addition to the merchandising and film, the Geronimo Stilton and Thea Stilton novels also have their own website with videos and games and places to write and draw. Thea has been awarded many prize in her career that include the 2008 Bologna Book Fair Grand Prize of the License Global, the 2002 ebook award as the world best electronic book, and the 2001 Anderson Prize.

“Thea Stilton and the Dragon’s Code” is a delightful story that sees Geronimo’s sister Thea takes the lead in a story full of friendship, adventure, and mystery. When Thea gets an invitation to go give a journalism lecture to a class in a college on Mouse Island, she never expects to find herself center stage in a disappeared student mystery. Now that one of her students has gone missing without a trace, Thea and five of her students have to find the clues to lead them to the student and most important of all determine the mystery of his disappearance. The novel is a nail-biting mystery with all the attendant underground passages, secret tunnels and many surprises that will leave the reader in thrall.

“Thea Stilton and the Mountain of Fire” is another Thea narrated novel packed with action and fabulous adventure. Thea’s Sister and her friends leave for Australia to solve one of the most interesting of mysteries. Nicky’s family ranch has been experiencing a bizarre happening where all their sheep have been losing their wool inexplicably. The farm depends on the wool for its survival and if the five mouselings cannot find the solution to the problem, the farm will go bankrupt. They hear that the cure may be an ancient Aboriginal medicine extracted from a strange root, and set out on an adventure across Australia to find it.
