Written by Graeme Apologies for no update last month.

My reading has been quite poor lately – I was always busy with running this site, but now I have been so focused on Book Notification and my reading has REALLY suffered.

I’m not complaining though – I am so incredibly proud of that site, and everything it has to offer and will offer in the future. So many cool things planned for it and if you haven’t signed up yet, be sure to. It’s completely free, you get notified of new books by your favourite authors, track your reading lists etc.

Here’s what I’ve read over the last couple of months:

First Strike by Stephen Leather: The 21st book in one of my favourite series, but a “thumbs down” one for me. The primary story was based on the attacks in Israel, and it felt like too quick a turnaround time and didn’t come off as natural as Leathers usual books. Sorry Stephen but I still love you and thanks for using Jimmy Sharpe so often still!

The Personal Assistant by Kimberly Belle: Listened to this thriller. It’s about an influencer, and all these nasty messages being sent from her account just as her assistant goes missing. I didn’t really like this one. None of the protagonists were likeable at all and the story went all over the place.

And Then She Vanished by Nick Jones: Loved this one! The first book in the Joseph Bridgeman series. If you’re a fan of time-travel in the more “light” way such as Blake Crouch etc, check out this book!

The Institute by Stephen King: I really enjoyed this one. It even had a good ending, and I’m looking forward to seeing the adaptation. Took one point off it because of the shoehorned political opinions. C’mon authors; you have so many other platforms these days if you want to share your opinions. Don’t jam them into books when it just detracts from the plot. Anyway just the one issue I had; the rest of the book was fantastic and highly recommended!

Erasure by Percival Everett: I enjoyed this book so much. It makes me want to read so much more by Everett. Warning: lots, and I mean LOTS, of bad language. But it is a wonderfully written book and also hilarious. I read it in one sitting and it had me glued throughout.

The 22 Murders of Madison May by Max Barry: A sci-fi novel where a female gets killed by the same man throughout different universes. This was okay – solid concept, but I did find it lacking. One of those books I’d never rush out to recommend, but if you asked me if you should read or listen to it I’d say “Sure go for it”.

One Of Us Is Dead by Jeneva Rose: I listened to this one as well. It’s about a group of high society women and one of them ends up dead. I’d recommend reading this one over listening, as the narrators were fantastic and really added to the characters. Thoroughly enjoyed it.

Everybody Knows by Jordan Harper: I loved She Rides Shotgun but was disappointed in this one. It lost me about halfway through as the story was a bit all over the place with no real string connecting it all. One of those where I bumped up the speed of the narrator just to finish it faster.

Also watched a couple of adaptations of books I have read previously. The Long Walk by Stephen King/Richard Bachman was a superb adaptation, very well done. You season 1 was also very good.
