The first novel of the series was published by the Whitaker Distribution publishing house in the year 2010. It was titled as ‘Patchwork Dreams’ and featured the main characters in the form of Becky Troyer, Jacob Miller and Susie. The plot of the novel is set in Seymour, Missouri, United States and introduces the primary characters in a sequential manner. In the opening sequence of the plot of the novel, Becky Troyer is introduced as an unwed and pregnant lady in the Amish community of Missouri. She has become a pariah in the community after returning from from her Rumspringa. She realizes that she had done an unforgivable sin and confesses each and every wrongdoing in order to rejoin the church. In spite of several confesses about her sins, the peers of the church continue to ignore her. The situation becomes so difficult for her that she despairs the unlikelihood of getting married for love.
As the problems begin to rise even more in her life, Becky Troyer thinks about marrying a widower having his own family, as the only hope of coming out of the difficult situation. Her world begins to change after the arrival of Jacob Miller at the farm of her family, who comes to help with the chores during the summer time and then return to Pennsylvania at the end of the harvest period. Jacob has a girlfriend named Susie, who is not approved by Jacob’s father to be his life partner. Hence, he plans to send him to work on the farms of Becky’s family so that he will eventually fall in love with an Amish girl and bring a new blood into Seymour’s Amish community. However, Jacob is unaware of his father’s plans. While working on the farm, he tries to indulge in the various works related to farming as well as tries to cheer up Becky, whom he finds lovely but listless. Jacob takes her a number of youth gatherings and offers her an unconditional friendship. As the interactions between the two begin to increase, they find themselves drawn towards each other inexplicably. They think of overcoming their self-doubts and insecurities in order to let their love grow. However, Jacob is still undecided about their love and seems to be still in love with Susie. Becky feels that he might turn his back towards her just like all the others had done in her difficult situation.

After a short while, she takes her pupils on an unauthorized field trip to a Civil War battlefield, situated near the city, for which she faces heavy scoldings from the board members of the school as well as the parents of the pupils. After that, she struggles to regain the trust of the parents and the board members, and is put on probation. Now, Annie faces the risk of losing her job permanently with one more wrong step.
Joshua Esh, who belongs to the Lancaster County, Pennsylvania moves to Missouri as a part of the swapping agreement in order to introduce new blood into the community. Josh finds her attractive after seeing her for the first time, but becomes disheartened to know that she is committed to another man named Luke, even though he had left the Amish community and promised to come back someday. Upon returning, he is going to claim Annie. After that, Josh indulges into a relationship with a number of women except Annie as she was committed to Luke. But, when Luke returns, Annie pushes him away from her. She is rescued by Josh. The situation becomes even more awkward after knowing that Josh stays with Luke’s family.
